...you know. I asked Swan about this place. Why we had access to space? They said that the Realm was connected to all the worlds out there through the nova. So, we're going to places where the flow of that nova's been messed with. Like a memory of that world.
So that city must be like that. I don't know how we got up here, but...[hm. he shakes his head.] You're probably right. We'll try it. But be ready...just in case.
[ripped fingie is a bad sign so. he'll take the finger and hold it at the very end with the paper, lining it up with the scanner. time to scan the fingie.]
[ The door stays shut. Haha, just kidding, can you imagine? But it might have been better if it had.
The door opens to the decontamination chamber, although it's immediately obvious it will not be decontaminating anything anytime soon. The automatic door to exit it on the other side is missing, the wires that connected it dangling from the top of the frame. There are scratch marks gouged deep into the walls, and blood splatters on the floor. The lights inside are flashing red in warning. ]
[ she's reluctant to even step in there, honestly. with the lights flashing and blood everywhere, but... well. they can't go anywhere else but forward, can they?
she sticks to the wall though, immediately looking along the walls and ceilings for any other signs of something entering or leaving, other than via the ripped off door at the other side. when she's close enough, she'll take a more detailed look at those scratch marks -- how big are they? how deep is deep? is there any blood around the scratch marks? ]
...that's not good. [that's obvious. there's no way but forward. as alex enters the room and begins looking at the walls and ceilings, he'll stick to looking around the floor. is there any other kind of furniture or the like in the chamber? if not, he'll...head toward the door and try to peer outside to see what he can see.]
[ There's nothing on the floor of the chamber itself! It's for decontamination, after all. The walls and ceiling have some devices that were probably meant to help cleanse whoever passed through, but they clearly don't work now. The gauges on the wall are several inches deep, and about two feet tall. They're in patterns of four around the chamber, and there's no blood in or around them.
Outside the chamber ... is a wrecked laboratory. The flashing red lights continue, the only light source for this area right now. Sora's check will net him a few destroyed computers and desks, complicated looking machines that have been broken in two, and... what looks to be a row of intact human sized test tubes at the back with some odd, murky liquid in them. There are blood splatters all over everything here as well. It's not immediately apparent from the contamination chamber where to go in the lab, but be sure to be careful! There's a lot of glass and broken electronics on the ground. ]
[ so... there's something with two foot high claws running around. we love that.
alex follows sora into the lab after her customary look around the decontamination chamber, stopping by a couple of the desks. are there any computers that haven't been destroyed? and if she has a look at the test tubes when she's a bit closer will see anything of note in them, or around them?
she's okay though she has BOOTS now. broken glass can suffer under her step. ]
So we're... potentially not in space, but in space at the same time and there's a monster running around.
Is this monster supposed to be from someone's memory too...? Or something that should never have been here but the nova messed with the world enough to allow it?
[i see. love it! he's going to wander through the lab carefully, stopping a few feet from the tubes to squint at them curiously while alex is checking out the computers. is the blood fresh? does it look like there's more in any spot than the others? luckily he has sneakers so crunch crunch goes the glass.]
Maybe. I've seen plenty of monsters before. [...he should. maybe. tell alex this.] And there was a monster on the moon. A really, really big one. But these tubes look way too small for it. These are...people-sized.
[a vivid flashback to waking up from a pod. hm. uh.] ...but we can't see what's inside, can we?
[ None of the computers seem to be in working condition. There's a small piece of paper near one, though, that's been left mostly intact by the damage.
The blood in the room is still a little wet where there's more of it concentrated, but it's dry for the most part.
When both of them take a closer look at the tubes, they'll notice first that at the bottom of each of those is a vital monitor. All the stats on them read 0. Squinting into the liquid, there are distinct shapes in them. Some look almost perfectly human, while some look a little more monstrous, with growths and deformities all over their bodies. Their eyes are open but unseeing. As the monitors seem to imply, all are dead.
There's a door on the opposite side of the room from where they came from. They can't see where it leads, but if they look that way, they'll notice an observation chamber a little higher up from where they are, directly facing the test tubes. The glass on it is intact, and nothing seems damaged in there.
Perhaps more important than all of this, a sound can be heard in the distance now. It's brief, but it's almost like a roar. ]
[ alex takes a couple of sharp steps back when she sees the figures inside the tube, and also that their eyes are open and even if they're not focusing or seeing anything that is unnerving as hell.
the note seems safe. what does the note say? she'll read it until she hears the roaring noise and her head just turns to look at sora with something like complete panic in her eyes. ]
[he lingers for a moment to try and see if he can make out any features of the creatures in the tubes before he turns away. the door catches his interest, and he's already heading that way to go take a look. but hm. is there anything on the ground he can grab for protection? like a large piece of metal or anything?
also, this is a fun time for alex to find out something's wrong because:]
What was what? [:)? he looks up though, squinting at the observation chamber.] Hey. Look up. Think there's anybody up there?
Subjects 1-4 failed to adapt. Subject 5 in stasis. Further injections necessary to complete study.
The observation chamber looks empty. Looking on the floor, Sora might be able to use the front casing of one of the bigger machines as part of a makeshift shield. It does not seem very sturdy, however. ]
[ she... might just take that note and tuck it into her pocket. injections?
but more importantly, she hurries over to sora and ... mostly on instinct just stands right in front of him, maybe a little closer than is strictly necessary but this is important. ]
Sora, you didn't hear that? Something roared. I can't say how near or far away it was, but it was definitely a roar.
[ what the fuck is an observation chamber her companion is semi-deaf?? ]
[...even if it's not very sturdy it's better than nothing so up the casing goes for a shield. he's still squinting at the observation chamber though before alex moves and as she appears in his line of vision he blinks.]
Like...a monster roar? [GREAT. he shakes his head.] Guess we're not alone. We should keep moving...what'd the note say? [can they go toward the door anyway? he's heading that way. since it doesn't seem like there's any other way forward?]
[ It was a roar! It was a monster roar. Or was it? There's no follow up right now.
The observation chamber seems empty from where they're currently standing. As they head toward the door, they'll notice that it's stuck open halfway through. They'll have to squeeze through the opening, but they're both small, so they should fit.
Once they climb up the stairs to the observatory, they'll see that the console there seems to work fine. Nothing seems destroyed, and there's no blood anywhere. There's a passageway that continues in front of them. They can see the entire floor from where they are, and they'll also notice the test tubes are connected to a series of cables and tubes that goes all the way to the to the ceiling. The mysterious liquid is being pumped through there still. ]
Something about four subjects being failures and one in stasis, and needing further injections to complete the study.
[ alex takes a glance around the room, in case thereβs any paper or observation logs here as well, before following the trail of the cables up and across the ceiling. ]
This is a pretty clear view of everything. I wonder what they were doing here, to those βsubjectsβ.
There were a few subjects down there in those tubes, but doesn't stasis mean it should be stopped? [...he does not want to ask, but.] Where's the other one?
[as alex is looking for papers or observation logs, sora will approach the console to see if he can read any of the controls or if there are any buttons worth pushing.] I wonder that, too, though. Did you see them? Some of them looked like they were growing into something totally different. But why?
[...he does glance down that passageway though to see if he can get a hint of what's over there.]
[ There doesn't seem to be any more papers loosely hanging out here, but looking more closely at the console, they'll notice that there's a drawer next to it. The passageway seems normal; there are a few crates lining it, but nothing immediately stands out.
The console itself has a display currently displaying a small map of the laboratories. It looks like the passageway continues forward to an almost full circle back here without connecting to the other side. It's connected to four chambers on the outside of the circle throughout the way, though not all of them connect to each other, and to something in the middle on the inside of it through two walkways.
There is a built in intercom in the console, possibly to speak to the chamber below. There are numerous unlabelled buttons on the console, though pressing them does not seem to do anything. Some might display an error message over the map. ]
Oh, I saw them... but whatever they were doing to them, the machines weren't showing any signs of them still being alive. They might've died during the experiments, whatever they were for.
[ hmmm. well, while sora is on console examination duty, alex will take a step out into the passageway, towards one of the little chambers. is there a window or something she can look through to see inside?
AND ALSO SHE'S CHECKING THE CEILING AGAIN because i saw zia's chandelier trap and i do not want to swing or suffer from one similar to it like tomorrow doesn't exiiisssst. ]
Those might be subjects ones through four. [he's glancing at the walls and ceiling briefly as he returns his attention to the console to study the map. almost absentmindedly though he'll try to open the drawer and see if there's anything inside.]
What do you see out there? There's a map that shows the passage way leads to four other chambers, plus maybe another room. We can go check it out.
[he'll try to turn on the intercom though just to see if it works. he won't speak into it, but is there any feedback, etc?]
[ I sent in a map for a reason, becks, the chamber is a lot further than a few steps! Alex would have to be ready to abandon Sora for a few minutes to get to the first. Though since she glanced at the ceiling, she gets to escape a bit of purple goo that was about to droop down on her! Phew. That was a close one. It seems to be coming from close to a vent...
Inside the drawer is... a DVD?There's nowhere on this console to input it. As well, he'll find part of a note.
"Subject has been contained in chamber."
The intercom seems to work fine? There's no feedback.
[ i have no sense of spacial awareness. anyway she's going to backtrack fastly as soon as she hears that roar, within sora's hearing range. ]
There was another roar. And -- outside of here, there's more of that goo on the ceiling, near to a vent.
[ goo + vent = ????? bad actually. ]
Whatever it is that's roaring might... um... might be using the vents to get around. Assuming that the goo is from whatever it is that's making that noise and clawed the hell out of the chamber. [ which is bad, actually. she's going to stick with the literal teen here because if there's a suddenly clanging in the vents she's not gonna have time to leg it back to him to warn him before they need to act. ]
[he's looking at the DVD for any identifying features, but otherwise he will pocket it and show alex the note. and also he's no longer touching the intercom but hm.]
"Subject has been contained in chamber." If this thing really broke out and it's crawling around all over the place how're we supposed to even track it? [stitch, is that you??? he once again points at the map.]
Our only option looks like we either go back the way we came, or we keep going forward. And I didn't see an exit behind us. I found a disc that might have some information but I don't think we can use it right now.
The map only shows the four chambers and whatever that thing is in the middle. So we can go check those out and try to dodge this monster. [he'll push a few more buttons though just to see if he can get a different display of the map or a camera or anything.]
...um...depends. We either shut off the air so we can hear it better, or we just gave it access to a whole lot of vents. [bad.] We still haven't found the key card, you're right. So we should go.
[there's another look around to see if there's anything useful before picking up his makeshift shield.] Come on. Map said this way, so let's see if we can track it and find the other chambers.
[time to go into the passageway! alex mentioned goo, so as they go he'll look up at the ceiling to try and look at the vent. does it look like it was opened recently? are there any other identifying features to the passageway as they walk?]
