it's not enough to stop them though because, haha, the alternative is dying! granted now that his shield's essentially useless he's yeeting it at the monster, along with some of the old, useless syringes while he's locating the keycard. he's going to keep that in his hand until they get to the elevator, thank you!!!

[ It works well enough, actually! It is mainly because being of unstable, asymmetrical form and sliding/melting off as you walk is not conducive to stairs or the turn on them, so it absolutely hits a wall, giving them a few precious seconds! Yay.
Anyway as established the elevator is already on that floor, so once they slam the button the doors will open... you know how when you're in a rush it feels like everything is happening in slow motion? this is that. but if they choose to squeeze through as soon as they can, and since sora has the key card ready, once he swipes that up all that they need to do is slam that door close button and the up one! Which I'm gonna be nice and assume they do, because it's late.
The monster does catch up as the door closes, and manages to sneak a claw in the slim opening of the elevator door, swiping in their direction... but the door closes on it and it turns to an odd, blue slime as the monster slams all the way into the elevator door from the other side.
A soothing elevator music starts to play as it starts going up. ]

the saving grace here is that it isn't just barry's form she can see, it's three things flickering, and two of them she doesn't recognise. but for a moment she completely tenses up, breath going shallow and there's a real fear in her eyes but when barry's form flickers into something else the fear gains an edge of confusion, and then seems to die a little.
A meteor? [like he knows what the hell a meteor is and he's half-tempted to turn to the window, but his attention is taken away the moment someone appears in the doorway. at first, he sees xehanort and he immediately takes a defensive stance with the sword in his hands.]

Outside, they're stupidly high up with wind whipping at them and the heat slowly rising from the meteor. There's no helicopter in sight, but there's an emergency ladder to climb to even higher ground ("ground") if they want to. It doesn't look like there's anything up there at all, but it's there.
It has apparently elected not to continue talking in its predator-like approach. The sword it takes out looks vaguely similar to the one Sora is holding, brandishing it. A flash shows a few of the tentacle at its back aiming for the gang as well. To tl;dr: You can fight, keep going up to a small platform, or, idk, jump off the building ig. ]
[ it... may be generally in alex's nature to protect people, especially those who are younger than her. but she's also not stupid enough to get in the middle of a fight between someone who knows how to fight and
