[ Lup opens a door to what seems to be a large banquet hall. There are rows of tables, and at the other end of the room is a single one that will probably be where the most important people sit. It's extremely busy in here! A few people pause when they see her and whisper amongst themselves.

Alphi opens the door to... stairs? They're going downward. ]

[evocationary]

[ wow, rude, don't whisper. she gives them an annoyed look. ]

Any of you gossipy Gregs seen the king?

[arcsplainist]

[ Stairs. Hm. He's keeping a note of that, but first—time to overhear what responses Lup may get. ]

[retellers]

Who is Greg?

[ They start whispering? Greg???

But one will speak. ]

They were in the library for a while, and then suddenly ran out of it. I guess they must have found something they were looking for, since they ripped a bunch of pages out of a book-- oh. [ He looks at Alphi. ] Sorry about your books?

[evocationary]

You're all Gregs.

[ huff. ] Great, so we're yakkity saxing! Do you know, like, which direction they went? Upstairs? Downstairs? Are they still on this floor, like - how hard is it to keep track of a king.

[arcsplainist]

[ Alphinaud looks largely unconcerned for the books and just shakes his head. ]

Surprisingly difficult, should he have decided to run off as he had...

[ And then, in a lowered voice: ]

I will continue to seek out the library.

[ FOURTH DOOR ON THE RIGHT.......?? ]

It's not our job to keep track of the king--I'm surprised you or the aide aren't with them. But no, we've been too busy preparing, we just saw them run off. We're just... concerned about their moods.

[ And

Alphinaud finds the library.

It's gigantic, and for some reason it will feel very familiar to him, like yes, he definitely belongs in this place. ]

[evocationary]

I would just love to be there by their side, but they keep running from me.

[ she scowls. ] Fine, alright. Get back to it. Good luck.

[ ... she'll let alphinaud deal with the library for a moment, she wants to check out the other doors on the right. can she just see what's in each room? ]

[ And Alphinaud will deal with the library.

It's weird how comfortable this unfamiliar place suddenly feels to him, but he strides in with purpose and, thankfully, is not unused to taking an authoritative tone. ]

—You there. [ He points to the first aide he sees. ] The king had but recently visited, had he not? If he had on hand one of our books, I must needs know which.

[retellers]

[ Imagine if Alphinaud didn't go this way. Because the person he addresses immediately stands to attention, because Alphi is the boss here. ]

The king was sat over there, sir.

[ He points over at a corner that has definitely been... well, ransacked. Whoever was sitting here did not put the books back. ):

Lup will get to see a sitting room with a lot of comfortable chairs, and... one of the doors is just flat out locked. ]

[ wtf locked door!! she wiggles the handle like it's going to help.

she's going to let alphinaud do all the work, as is her wont. she tries to grab a servant. ]

Hey, why is this door locked?

[arcsplainist]

[ Lup... your manners. Anyway, Alphinaud will thank the aid and head over to the ransacked area. What type of books are strewn about, and which one had its pages ripped out? ]

[retellers]

[ The servant gives Lup a weird look, like this is something she should know?? ]

Did you forget the damages? It's not safe.

[ Alphinaud will see that a lot of the books are about supernatural things, but we're mostly thrown aside. He'll find one book that talks about strange creatures from the stars, and it's that one that is missing pages. ]

[evocationary]

I forgot the damages, yes. What damages.

[ she just says this so impatiently. she should try to play along but for some reason she just has a hard time with not being reactive! hm. ]

[arcsplainist]

[ Well then. Alphinaud will be taking that book with him, lets an aide know he will tend to the mess himself later, and then exits the library to rejoin Lup. ]

[retellers]

You know, the fire. How did you forget?

[ But then Alphinaud walks over before they can continue to judge Lup even more. ]

[evocationary]

Too many leeches or something. [ she says, waving a hand. completely just ignoring this servant now: ]

Oh. Hey, bud. Find the king?

[arcsplainist]

[ Here he is!! First he addresse the servant. ]

Mind us not; you may return to your duties.

[ And he'll tug Lup away from any overhearers. ]

Nowhere in sight, but I did find the book he sought after. [ He'll lift it for her to see. ] Tell me you're thinking what I am upon seeing this.

[evocationary]

[ she follows easily enough, pushing her hair back out of her face. ]

Strange creature from... oh, do you think this is about the, uh, the monster? The nova eating thing. [ ... ] Shit, who do you think the king is, then?

[arcsplainist]

I cannot say. 'Twould appear he had torn through an array of books regarding other supernatural beings ere he found this one. After this speak of curses, I am inclined to believe the king has been pursuing something he... well, should not.

[ dark magic!!!!!!! yaaaay ]

[evocationary]

Great! Fantastic. That's always what I like to hear, dudes in power just really digging their hands into the supernatural. Always goes well.

Do we know where they went at all? We're probably going to need to stop them from - uh. Resetting us.

Nary a sight of him has been caught, by the sounds of it. If he is not around this level, nor the ones above...

[ Alphinaud cants his head toward one of the doors he peeked through earlier. ]

... There are more stairs going down.

I guess we can try that. [ she glances across the room. ]

Down to the dungeons, then?
