[ As an extracurricular assignment, Hishi wants to gather plants, herbs, and the like out in the nearby jungle. Hilda might hate this, but she can at least bring the cat-that-has-definitely-been-named-by-now if she wants to play with it.
While Hishi gathers what she needs, she tells Alyssa and Hilda that she might finally be narrowing her focus. She thinks she might want to pursue a path of researching the plant life and making medicines. Science! However, her teacher has further encouraged her to narrow her focus further between what kind of medicines: healing medicine or dangerous medicine.
This isn't weird at all. Just go with it. Anyway:
A. Encourage Hishi to pursue the path of a healer. B. Encourage Hishi to go into poisons and whatnot just in case she ever needs them. For some reason. ]
[ perhaps surprisingly, the outdoors don't seem to bother alyssa much. she's done her share of field research, after all! ]
In all honesty, I think it's a legitimate thing to consider. It's a perfectly viable way of defending yourself, and there's no shortage of dangerous stuff out here...
[ here she glances over at hishi, who's distracted collecting plants but never hears them discuss stuff anyway thanks to mod magic, but. even so, alyssa purposely lowers her voice so that only hilda can hear her mutter, ]
... Take her parents, for example. Her real ones. Who knows what they ran into at the ruins...
She doesn't really seem like the type to fight... but she's a smart girl, and you don't necessarily need to win a fight if you can get rid of the threat beforehand.
[ ...now that she's on this tangent, something seems to have popped into her head. ]
Consider it this way—we've both taught her useful things, right? So... she can use the techniques she's learned from your crafting to make traps, then lace them with poison. Just like making jewelry and chemistry experiments.
[ Despite Emet-Selch's best attempts to turn Kaiza into a nerd, he's still not that great at school. Whoops, sorry about that. However, teachers will inform Emet-Selch (not Hansa, who has been banned) that they're not too worried, since Kaiza still has plenty of other life skills and gets along well with his classmates, that one time he punched one aside.
(He might've asked Hansa for more tips afterwards, but rest assured he hasn't been punching anyone at random.)
In particular, he's very close with two, Ohmi and Riu. "why are these names weird" listen everyone was originally going to be alphabet soup kids. Anyhow, apparently the three of them have discussed pursuing a career together once they're adults, although it's tricky since they all have different skillsets.
Ohmi's very gifted academically and a nice guy, but can't read social cues to save his life, while Riu also gets top marks (well, not as good as Hishi, though), but her hot-headed, strong-willed personality both makes her leadership material and causes her to clash with others. These descriptors come from Kaiza, who is trying to be honest but also nice about his friends. As for Kaiza—according to his teachers, not from his own word of mouth—he's generally the mediator of the group, and the class in general.
What career path should they take, after they graduate? This won't be until years later, but it's good to think ahead!
A. Become explorers, who can investigate the world, ruins, etc. outside the village. B. Take up leadership positions in the village. C. Travel to other, more remote villages and assist with what they lack. D. Any other option Hansa and Emet-Selch might think of. ]
[These years are going by fast, aren't they? It feels weird, especially with how far away their previous timeline seems. Murdergame? Realm? What's that? Only Kaiza time now.]
[Anyways, Hansa is happy that Kaiza is doing as well as he can be, especially with his friends. But careers? Hm. He's just sitting at the table with Treasure in his lap, petting the cat thoughtfully as he looks over at Emet-Selch.]
I don't think I really have too big of an opinion...I mean, as long as the kid likes what he does. Though I guess we have to think about his friends, too.. what are your thoughts?
[just kaiza time... it isn't that bad, really, to have a break like this. he's been trying to keep his emotional distance, but this kid is now shaping up to remind him more of someone--
so of course he has an answer.]
They would serve well in leadership positions, I would think. Any such group is in need of a mediator and more neutral party, and if he is able to calm arguments and hold them together...
Then with his leanings toward doing what is best, I believe they will all be suitable enough. He will have someone here with experience to help guide him, as well.
But I think I see what you're saying. If they stick together as friends, their personalities could work well with each other. Plus, he's a good kid. I think he's naturally want to put his abilities in to helping the community.
It is, yes. Our own Convocation had the seat of the Emissary, who served a similar purpose. Not entirely the same, but there are elements of it in the position I think he would do well to take.
'Tis a better purpose than adventure alone, should he put his mind to it.
[adventuring to do good, though, also strikes something in him... he just isn't quite certain what. it certainly isn't his own tendency, but then was there someone who did--?
no, it's more responsible to encourage him to stay here.]
I'm not really the leader type, so I'm sure you can direct the boy a lot better than I.
[He scratches the cat behind the ears, lazily.]
I like adventure, but I know that isn't for everyone. And he has good connections here, among the community. Haha. I guess he's more like you than me in that regard.
[ Hansa and Emet-Selch suggest that Kaiza take up a leadership position! When, you know, he's older. ]
Do you really think I'll be good at it...?
[ He looks thoughtful, if a bit unsure. What exactly does being a leader entail...? ]
Well, I guess Ohmi and Riu can take care of the hard parts, since they're good at getting paperwork and stuff done, and I just have to make sure they're not pissing anyone off, on purpose or by accident.
There always needs to be one to stabilize the group-- leaving things to a single ruler is less effective, but a group can become complicated when they fail to agree. Being able to listen to and understand the public is of great import, as well.
Haha, hey! Don't take it as pressure. Its not like you have to live up to some lofty ideal. You'll just tire yourself out that way.
[Hansa knows that Emet will probably have a lot more to say here, given that he himself is a carefree feral man who barely follows the rules, but he'll try his best.]
I think that you just have to keep in mind what you're doing this for. Leaders who get selfish and only want to help themselves are like bad apples that ruin the whole bunch. You have to work for the community and the people within it. But you can't exactly be lax, either - you have to be fair, and just, and be able to listen to others and what they want to say.
It is as he says-- the good of the whole comes before the good of the individual, and before specific preferences. What matters is not what you wish to do, but what would be best to do for the community.
...as for the other two, no, they may not end up learning. However, they may grow into it. Even if they do not, so long as you are there to help speak for them, their work itself should produce results.
[ Hishi, taking the sage advice of her guardians, decides to go into poisons. ]
That might be a good idea. Our teachers have been warning us that things are getting dangerous lately. They say children have been going missing lately.

What kind of teacher suggests learning poisons... I mean, I guess they're useful, but I think being a healer sounds better.

Sure, but isn't it more practical for her to learn how to use a weapon?
[ just hit things with sharp objects? if they threaten you? ]
—I guess that might not suit her, though. And I do want to make sure she can stay safe.

[ actually she sounds a lot like claude right now but after last trial she will. keep that to herself. but she just sighs and nods. ]
All right then, I'm sure she'll find a way to help people no matter what route she goes. [ poison and medicine kind of go hand in hand anyway. ]

Hishi herself said it—a girl's gotta use the resources she has available to her.
