iirc, Lup started out mocking him for having forgotten his name, which like. He's not a fan of getting teased by people he's not already friends with, and losing his name was kind of a sore spot. So. He didn't like her much at first.

But then she offered him booze after Kano's execution and he really appreciated that. And sure he was kind of wallowing at the time, but her shutting him down on the "oh if only I did X" thing earned her a lot of respect because normally, that's the approach Bucky himself likes to take. Having that knocked into his head again was nice.

After that he started viewing her more positively and was more open to kind of joking around with her even if he was still, uh, pretty grumpy. But come week 4 when he lost all the Bad Mems and I think Taako forgot Lup? They kind of reversed and suddenly he was the more cheerful teasing one trying to bring her out of her funk. Which, let me tell you, her putting stickers all over his arm for the sake of cheering her up got me real good right in that tender spot. Plus, by this point, there was Wolf Solidarity and Formerly Dead Solidarity so like. He not only enjoys her company and cares about her, but he also trusts her!

TOO BAD HE DIED THEN. And he was stewing in his own self-loathing and Lup wasn't there to knock him out of it so he just. didn't reach out to her. rip.

By the time they met again at the end, Bucky'd gotten his memories back so nominally he should've been grumpy again, but Lup had grown on him and also gave him spiked coffee so he like. Genuinely likes her. A Real Friend! Now if only they'd had more time together, I'm sure that only would've gotten stronger.

Swan was 100% the reason Kano bullied Bucky relentlessly, he would have held zero grudge over the trial thing but then he spoke with Swan and decided Bucky must suffer

oh my god. that's incredible.

Kano is a very special kind of infuriating that somehow manages to undo all of Bucky's personal growth and make him regress to being like. a 10 year old. It's absolutely magnificent.

See, as soon as Bucky saw there was a bucket full of scalpels and tools, he meant to yeet them all out the airlock so no one could use them for murder. Unfortunately, I was a dipshit who forgot to report that and by then Kano had stolen A MILLION SCALPELS so ICly what ended up happening is that he threw out whatever he could, but, well. Most tools had already been stolen. That Kano was so heavily armed, and that it led to him getting scapegoated felt like a personal failure to him.

That he let himself get so thoroughly annoyed by Kano as well, to the point of gleefully holding him upside down for half an hour, also made him feel horrible because it turned out it wasn't even him. (And amazingly, no, Bucky did not end up voting for him either!)

He was mad at himself for letting this all happen, and he was mad at Kano for seeming to go out of his way to be suspicious. Bucky found him utterly baffling until some other folks like Shiro said that Kano was just acting out for attention, that negative attention was better than nothing, and that really stung, because, well. That's not all that dissimilar from how Bucky himself was as a child. He felt a weird sort of kinship there and genuinely felt bad for him, and awful for letting him down.

Then, that he failed to find ALL the scalpels and let Kano walk into his execution with more of them and nearly kill Jeanne felt like another failure. (This is why Bucky drank himself into a puddle with his whiskey bowl the next week.)

By the time Bucky got to the graveyard, he'd forgotten everything past his own death--the Winter Soldier years, coming out of it and reclaiming himself, his anger and impulsivity tempered by guilt and regret...all of that was gone. So he was much quicker to anger and much quicker to act on it than before.

When I say Bucky regressed in the graveyard, a lot of that is due to, uh, being stuck in the same place as Kano for a long time with little escape. Even his scalpel guilt aside, Kano just hit this horrible sweet spot of infuriating Bucky, which then leads to him lashing out, which leads to Kano calling him out for getting aggressive against people who haven't earned it, which just exacerbates Bucky's existing insecurities (that he's a loose cannon who, without the backdrop of a war to justify it, just hurts people needlessly) and makes him even angrier. And the anger makes him lash out even more.

Which is how we got to that attempted murder.

And then the end of the cycle is that once all is said and done, Bucky runs off to go sulk about the fact that, despite knowing he and Kano can be quite similar, Kano will always have the moral high ground because Bucky simply has no self-control.

He might've been okay in the graveyard, honestly??? if not for Kano. But he just has a special talent for making Bucky spiral deeper and deeper in anger and self-loathing until he bottoms out. Kano is colossally awful for Bucky's like, entire existence, which means every thread with him was just an utter delight.

AAAAAAAAAA Lisa I will scream more about this on Kano's side of things in my tlcr response to you but please know that Kano knew exactly what he was doing pushing the exact buttons he knew would make Bucky flip his shit, he is awful bc he figures out what makes people tick and strikes mercilessly at their heart. I didn't think I would get to play this side of him because it required 1) somebody wronging somebody Kano cared about, and 2) Kano caring about somebody, but the stars aligned and I was soooooooooo happy, thank you for being such a good sport

Hansa's such a weird dude, Bucky doesn't totally get him but he likes him. I mean, how can he not, when Hansa basically opened with offering him his little vodka bottle. Both of the priests in this game are some of the wildest he's ever seen, but hey, any priest who's willing to drink and throw the fuck down is one he's willing to hang with.

Bucky thinks he's got some very weird hangups about being a cyborg though and he wishes he could've knocked that out of him bc boy does it make Bucky want to roll his eyes. SO YOU'RE MADE OF METAL, IT'S NOT SOMETHING TO BE ASHAMED OF, MY DUDE.

Finding out Hansa was like. A feral child didn't come as a huge surprise to him honestly because Hansa has that energy and also already admitted to having fought bears. (which like. DEFINITELY EARNED HIM SOME RESPECT FROM BUCKY, god i hate this terrible man) Mostly he just expected a younger Hansa to be feral in the uh, metaphorical sense, not the literal. The exact details of it and how long it lasted for did kinda shock him.

He felt like he grew apart from him in w3 though because he came back from his cyoa acting pretty weird and then was basically ALL OVER Emet (aka, the dude Bucky just hated from the beginning for being a lazy piece of shit lmao). Plus, after that failed execution, he was both like...worried but also sus of Hansa, because he clearly knew Emet would be okay. But also Bucky thought Emet was fully lying about a self-defense kill, which just made him hate the dude more and be kind of...disappointed that he was with Hansa? Like, come on man. You can do better than this.

Anyway if he hadn't gotten scapegoated and given away his RSVP, he would've made Hansa and Emet feel like they betrayed each other just to try and get Hansa away from this garbage man and consider some better fucking company. (And also killed Emet but that has less to do with Hansa really.)

I don't think their relationship really evolved all that much over the course of the game? But it was friendly and Hansa knows the exact right kind of teasing that gets Bucky to be less grumpy, so. It may not have evolved much, but it was still nice! Decent man, would fight a bear with.

Mob caught Bucky at a canonpoint where he'd already basically adopted two kids so like. Mob instantly activated his Dad Mode. Partially because he's baby and partially because the second he started talking to Mob he was like "oh my god, this child is so naive he will get himself killed."

But at the same time, sometimes Mob just busts out some incredibly wise statement in such a measured tone of voice that was just. fully wisdom beyond his years. It left Bucky with a weird balancing act of like. Dispensing advice to Mob to keep him from kILLING HIMSELF and talking about big philosophical questions even he himself doesn't know.

As I'm sure Mob figured out, his usage of the rock to make Kano not feel any pain infuriated him mostly because Bucky already felt like everything about that execution was his fault and the lack of pain just let it get so much worse than expected. He was in a weird place of "Kano is innocent" and "he did this to himself by being suspicious" and "is that alone enough to condemn someone to death" and "if I'd gotten rid of the scalpels before Kano got to them we wouldn't have scapegoated him in the first place" and Mob using that item just kind of. Scrambled him even harder with his guilt which, of course, he expresses initially via anger and only after mellowing out the rest of the week could he really come to terms with it.

Week 3/4 kind of reoriented Bucky's view of Mob in that he saw that Mob isn't necessarily always passive and can actually! be quite angry and bratty too!!! Which like yes was very concerning bc it's so different to how he normally is, but also kind of a relief because wow, thank god, a kid doing a normal kid thing. With the memshare context he got for that in week 4 too it helped explain the week 3 outburst a little more--but not necessarily why Mob is so fucking chill all the time. Honestly by this point Bucky just kind of. accepted that that's How He Is against all logic. He did learn that uhhhh an unnerfed Mob can be fucking terrifying holy shit my dude??? fuckin kids with powers, i swear to god--

Anyway Bucky didn't really wanna see Mob die because he seemed too...i guess sensitive? to handle such a thing well. (I mean. really. who does handle death well.) Plus also like come on, the kid is so innocent. I don't think they talked much in the graveyard because by then he was like, so busy drowning in his Kano-fuelled anger cycle and lost all the dad instincts that initially drew him to Mob, so.

He still doesn't quite understand what happened there at the end of Mogami but again, Mob's total dismissal of it was just so fucking wild to him lmao. He was also treading lightly with Mob at the end there because he has no idea if he knows about Bucky's weird high school drama filled with insecurities there, he. did not want that to be Perceived.

All in all, Bucky likes Mob and he definitely triggers his protective dad instincts but he just cannot wrap his head around the way the kid thinks at all. Bucky wants the best for him, but he also like operates in such an alien way that Bucky isn't even sure what 'the best for him' even is.

BUCKY 👏 BARNES 👏 WOULD 👏 DIE 👏 FOR 👏 OCHAKO

He stans this girl so much.

Honestly he was snotty to her for like a hot second when they first met because she was placing all this emphasis on like her powers and how they were needed for hero work? Or that's how he interpreted it anyway--but then she said something about needing to know how to fight even while powerless and immediately Bucky's heart grew twice as large and he was like ATTAGIRL

Basically every time he spoke with her and got to know her a little better, he liked her a little more. I think the moment he took her aside with the healing gun and really told her to consider the weight of her actions and if she could live with the consequences was the real point of no return. When Ochako wholeheartedly signed up for that responsibility--and was willing to actively learn how to gun better--that was basically the moment he went ride or die for her. Then when he saw her memshare of Bakugou, he went even MORE ride or die for her. That level of drive and determination? THAT is the shit he lives for--it's what's kept him going his entire life, and seeing it in Ochako was an absolute delight. She basically maxed out the respect meter, it is as high as it can possibly go for a 16 year old.

It's why he gave her the shield. He didn't want the shield to just go in the trash (and didn't know the dead could keep items), so he wanted to pass it on to someone who could make good use of it. Mostly he gave away all his things to his other Wolf teammates in a free-for-all, but wanted to give the shield away to someone specifically. Ochako was easily the best candidate--whether used as a weapon or a shield, he wanted it to go to someone who could make good use of it for the greater good. Ochako, with her drive and willingness to take on responsibility, was basically the only person he would want to give it to. Plus, the fact that she could understand its significance meant a lot too, that she could appreciate what he was giving her. He wanted her to use that shield to defend herself, defend others, whatever it took to keep her alive and fix whatever the fuck was going on.

...he was a little disappointed to find out that she volunteered for her death, rather than going down swinging, but as soon as he like got over that mental image that he had in mind he was still proud of her. Volunteering to die for the greater good is not an easy decision--and that she got to have her fun of throwing the ferris wheel while she was at it just tickles his feral side.

He does genuinely feel bad for what he put her through in that mini-cyoa at the end, though. For one thing, he would have wanted to tell Ochako about the Winter Soldier on his own terms, which alone he didn't really want to do. He gave Ochako such an image of his WW2 days with Cap and she was so into it that he...perhaps immaturely wanted to just not acknowledge the ugly things he did. It's not something he gets to do back home, so he kind of fell into the trap of "oh no, she doesn't know i'm a horrible person and now it's TOO LATE." And he certainly would never want her to experience even an iota of what that was like. He felt horrible that Ochako had to find out about it like this at all, and that it was so brutal and painful for her in the process. He didn't have any control over that, but it's still nasty traumatizing shit and it's his fault she was put through it.

He's grateful that Ochako is just sweeping it under the rug and at least from the outside is dealing with it just fine. That she's willing to let him visit her world and wants to go meet Cap herself in spite of all that absolutely touches his fucking heart.

Anyway you know that look on his face (see: icon) whenever Nat is kicking ass and wrecking shop? That's gonna be Bucky with Ochako, all the time. Will Smith handsing at her and yelling "THAT'S MY FRIEND!" to anyone who will listen.

You are: correct!

I wish I had more to say for you but really Bucky was just constantly confused by Rufus at every turn. He seems to have such an alien way of thinking--or perhaps expressing--or perhaps both--that Bucky can't quite wrap his head around him, or what to make of him. Or what Rufus thinks of him in return.

He's so unflappable Bucky could never tell if that was because he suspiciously knew more than he should in advance, or if he's really just like that. And the way he stated his logic in such a matter of fact manner when it sounded absolutely bananas to Bucky really didn't help.

He did kind of appreciate his even-keeled stoicness, though. Bucky can get hyperemotional, but Rufus acts as a good balance to that. Plus, he's not snooty and mocking about how stoic he is/how emotional Bucky is, which would've only riled him up. So Rufus was just. Someone he subconsciously knew he could always have a calm chat with, whether or not he...understood any of it.

By the time he died and discovered Rufus had killed Hikaru despite Wolf already having been safe, he was confused, but that had become so expected of Rufus for him that he just kind of. Shrugged and went with it. Rufus must have had some reason, but hell if he knew what on earth it could possibly be.

That, and there was lowkey some Wolf trust there. Bucky never fully trusted most people here but the other Wolves got closest to it, so.

All in all, Rufus is someone he respects as an acquaintance, and would trust to get shit done if necessary, but also knows he will never in a million years understand.
