I wish I had more to say for you but really Bucky was just constantly confused by Rufus at every turn. He seems to have such an alien way of thinking--or perhaps expressing--or perhaps both--that Bucky can't quite wrap his head around him, or what to make of him. Or what Rufus thinks of him in return.
He's so unflappable Bucky could never tell if that was because he suspiciously knew more than he should in advance, or if he's really just like that. And the way he stated his logic in such a matter of fact manner when it sounded absolutely bananas to Bucky really didn't help.
He did kind of appreciate his even-keeled stoicness, though. Bucky can get hyperemotional, but Rufus acts as a good balance to that. Plus, he's not snooty and mocking about how stoic he is/how emotional Bucky is, which would've only riled him up. So Rufus was just. Someone he subconsciously knew he could always have a calm chat with, whether or not he...understood any of it.
By the time he died and discovered Rufus had killed Hikaru despite Wolf already having been safe, he was confused, but that had become so expected of Rufus for him that he just kind of. Shrugged and went with it. Rufus must have had some reason, but hell if he knew what on earth it could possibly be.
That, and there was lowkey some Wolf trust there. Bucky never fully trusted most people here but the other Wolves got closest to it, so.
All in all, Rufus is someone he respects as an acquaintance, and would trust to get shit done if necessary, but also knows he will never in a million years understand.
