How do you know when someone's splintering anyway? Can you just sense it...? Does it just feel like someone's off?

[retellers]

We just sense it. I'm... not really sure how to describe it, but we immediately know what's happening when we do. It's why I was confident enough to make the decision I did that one week...

[ if it was just a vague feeling rabbit would not have asked (redacted) to murder. ]

But which one of you senses it is entirely up in the air? [ i am WAITING for it to turn out mob killed cater and siz managed to kill and be killed in one game ]

And that's how things get spread out more.

[retellers]

Mm. My theory on that is that it probably wasn't one of the original abilities the Realm gave us when it gave us our powers. So letting us be able to sense it probably uses up energy, depending on how hard it is to actually detect splintering. That might be why it's only one of us per week. Maybe if it made more of us do it, it'll be harder for us to detect it, because the power would be so spread out.

[ she sighs. ]

I think the reason it was a different Leader every week too was to make sure we all believed it was happening. If it was the same one every week, then the others would have no reason to believe it was actually real since they wouldn't have seen it themselves.

[chanteuser]

And by splitting up the responsibilty, if all of you check, or hear about it from us as it filters down to us, then you know that it's the truth and not just one Leader claiming something that isn't true.

[ ... ]

It makes sense. Does it run in a pattern, or is it completely random?

[retellers]

... hm, from what it seems like, it's been a different Leader each week. I don't know how that will change once it's been all of us?

[chanteuser]

Hm....

This is the sixth week, isn't it? Maybe you'll all be able to sense it and can pick who deals with it?

[retellers]

Maybe...? We'll see, since it wouldn't happen until Wednesday, going by past patterns.

[chanteuser]

... That's a pretty ominous thing to be waiting for, huh?

[retellers]

... Wednesday is one of my least favorite days of the week.

[chanteuser]

[ oh bunny.

she kisses her forehead. ]

I can imagine.

[retellers]

It's sad, because when the day comes, I get relieved when I don't sense anything because it means I don't have to ask one of you to do it, but then... it just turns into dread, knowing that someone else will have to and we won't know who.

[chanteuser]

I think that's... sort of the mood every week, in different ways. Feeling relieved when the people closest to you are okay, but then the dread of knowing you're going to lose someone else and you might not even pick someone who was guilty.

[ thinking of investigations and trials, and everything in between. ]

[retellers]

You'd think that, after so many weeks, it would get easier, but... it really hasn't.

[ ... ]

That's probably a good thing though. It would be terrible if this got easier.

[chanteuser]

... Yeah, I don't think it'd be a good thing to get used to this. Like you've just gone dead inside due to everything happening around you.

I hate the dread, but I'll take it over feeling nothing.

[cosplays]

... yeah.

I think it's a good reminder of the person you are, too.

[ despite losing so many memories, knowing that at least you hadn't lost that part of yourself. ]

[chanteuser]

Yeah. Even if you lose your memories, who you are at your core doesn't change.

At least... I think it doesn't. [ she wants to believe this is who she is, even without her memories. ]

[cosplays]

I think that... sometimes it depends on the memory. Since there are times where a major moment or person in your life might completely change your world view on things.

[ so losing that moment may change a lot about you. ]

[chanteuser]

Something so deep and important it changes who you are as a person...?

[cosplays]

[ she nods. ]

I think it happened to Raven, the week he died. But I think sometimes it might not be outwardly noticeable.

[chanteuser]

[ hmmm... ]

I... suppose if it's something inside of you, then it's still you. It's just whether the people around you see it as "you", or not.

[cosplays]

... yeah. Every version of you is still technically you, but the "you" that's current might not be the "you" that other people prefer, or vice versa.

[chanteuser]

Sometimes you might not even know who the "you" other people prefer is. It's complicated, isn't it?

[cosplays]

It is... although the concept of the self seems like it would be, I guess.

I think this is treading into a philosophical territory that's waaay beyond me.
