THE KNIGHT On Monday, at 11pm, Xie Lian will receive a message on his PHS. come to the castle and be discreet. it is important. Upon receiving this message, Xie Lian will notice that the castle appears closer than usual. Should he head towards it, he will finally be able to reach its entrance. Inside is a large hall with various doors, along with a staircase, but Xie Lian will be able to access only a single door. Once he steps inside, he will find his Leader waiting for him. After their meeting is over and he leaves the castle, he will no longer be able to reach the castle again. As the Knight: Every Monday, the Knight will be given the chance to protect 1-2 participants in two different ways, active only for the current week. They may choose to apply both means of immunity to the same participant, or they can pick a different person for each one. Or, if they so wish, no one at all. The two forms of protection are active only as long as the Knight is still alive and are as follows:
2.) They can give one participant immunity from execution on Sunday. If this participant is voted for at trial, they will survive their execution. However, they cannot be aware or harbour strong suspicions that they are protected, or else the immunity will fail. Additional notes: The Knight will be allowed to ask questions about the on-goings of the game and communicate with their Leader in their weekly meetings. They may receive small hints should they perform well. However, the information received will be up to their Leader's discretion. |

[ poor yona. really, so many people in this competition are children...
...ugh. his brow furrows. ] ...In trying to think along the lines of what type of person one would go after... I suppose Miss Hajime was quite friendly, and seemingly quite trusting, as well. But many of our group are, or at least, appear to be.
Perhaps...someone who seems less likely to be able to fight back? Miss Usagi, maybe...? Or Miss Hikaru... not that I doubt either of their abilities. Or Mob... They are all quite young.

It is difficult to predict... People can harm one another for any number of reasons.

I think it will be easier to try and focus on the people who must need to be protected, instead of those who may attack. And, in reverse...those who may be used as a scapegoat. [ ... ] Erm. Well, perhaps there's a better word.
[ anyway. ] What I mean is, people who may seem suspicious, or strange to others, even when they've done nothing wrong.
[ ...
well. he has a thought, for the second choice, but... it feels selfish. he reaches up, absently, holding onto the front of his robe near his chest. ]

Is there something on your mind, Xie Lian?
no subject
There is someone I know who fits that description, at least. But, he can protect himself, and...
[ his hand curls a little tighter. ] ...I don't want to be the reason that someone else could have survived, because I chose to protect someone out of my own selfishness.
[ and a tiny, tiny part of him - one that sounds like jun wu's voice, in his head - whispers the ghost king is the scourge of the heavens, even if he knows otherwise. ]

The chances of success are low, no matter what. It's up to what others may do.
[ the odds of picking correctly are unfortunately not great. ]
... You mean Hua Cheng, I assume. [ ... ] He doesn't deserve to be safe any less simply because you know him personally, correct? Just as you might blame yourself if you protected him and someone else died instead... surely, you would grieve if you picked someone else and he was targeted after all.
[ they clasp their hands in front of themselves. ]
It is a difficult decision, and one that may lead to tears either way. For that, I am sorry it was placed on your shoulders.

[ if this were the heavens, everyone would jump to accuse hua cheng the moment they had the chance.
he's quiet for a moment longer, pensive with the weight of his words and actions.]
...You're very wise, Brother Goat. I think I'll choose him for Sunday, then.... just in case.
[ and, as for it being a difficult decision... xie lian's mouth curls a little at the edges, and he murmurs: ] ...Whether it's right or wrong, sometimes you are made to choose between two separate paths - nothing in this world can always be perfect.
I think it will be better to throw a brick at all, than to simply hold back and wait. If I miss and choose the wrong person - if this even happens - at least I will have tried. Even if this can just save one person, it's a start.

[ asked mostly out of curiosity.
but they nod. ]
I am glad to hear you say that. If fear of failure held us back... then I suppose nothing would ever move forward.

[ and it's a bond like that - like the ones he's begun to make with the others here - that xie lian wants to protect. as ever, he is a bleeding heart, willing to do whatever it takes to move forward.
goat says it best. he nods, expression determined and proud. sometimes, he looks a little bit more like the crown prince of xianle, than the laughingstock of the three realms. ] I've failed so many times in my life, but no one could ever say that I haven't tried.
...I only hope luck won't make this worse. [ he laughs, a little, then, though it's a little sweaty. gods, he hopes not.... ] I'll try to keep my ears to the ground and get a feel for what the others are thinking to make a better decision, next week.
This is to be kept as secret as the teams we are on, correct? I know it says so for the power for Sunday, but...
no subject
[ they nod. ]
In general, for this, there's nothing stopping you from telling those you trust. It's best not to tell too many, though, lest it reach the wrong ears.
no subject
[ at the moment, he could only tell San Lang, really. and, somehow, he is pretty sure the phrase "if i pick the person who dies correctly then i die instead isn't that great!" is not going to go over well with him! ]
Then that leaves the matter of who to protect, on Thursday evening, lest something goes wrong.
[ a beat. ] ...Are there any others who received a similar title?
no subject
I'm afraid I can't answer that.
no subject
[ xie lian nods. not surprising...though, he thinks that's an answer in and of itself. ] Well, I'll hope that perhaps someone else has the chance to protect people, then, too.
I think I will choose one of our young friends, then. Best to try and protect those who cannot protect themselves... [ The Strong Must Protect The Sweet ] --though, hopefully, what happened last week won't become a recurring theme.
no subject
... Though I certainly hope as well that tragedy will not repeat.
no subject
[ too bad its a murdergame.
anyway. xie lian pauses for a moment. ] ...Brother Goat, this may be a bit of a selfish question, but perhaps you will indulge this humble scrap collector.
Why did you choose me for this?
no subject
I didn't choose you, exactly--you were selected from among those who spoke with me last week.
Though even if it were my direct decision, I believe I would've made the same one.

Then, if you've put your trust in me, I will do everything in my power not to let you down, Brother Goat.

can't believe i'm on tiger now
Thank you, Brother Goat. I think it is always in the best interest of anyone to do what we can to set things right.
...By the way, I believe I know what memory I'd like to trade with you, this time. Your wisdom reminds me of a teacher I had, a very, very long time ago - the Guoshi of Xian Le. He's since passed; he always had wise things to say. Whether I listened to them at the time or not was...debatable, [ he didn't, like ever, and he absolutely should have ] but I like to think I've learned since then.
no subject
Many people don't like listening to their teachers. [ they think. no memories. ] Especially as young children.
no subject
anyway. xie lian laughs, at that, heartened by it. ] I was a teenager, so I think that may be even worse.
Still, I think my experiences have taught me something, since. I hope if I do forget, I don't act as foolishly as I did then. [ mm. speaking of teenagers. ]
...Miss Usagi, I think. It's a shot in the dark, but better than no shot at all.
