Sora is the mvp of my mg experience bc you infodumped me so much I LOVE YOU TY I'M SORRY I PUT YOU THROUGH SO MUCH but anyways, if there was one person Kano pinned his hopes on to pull through, it was Sora, not exactly because he knew much about him or what he's capabilities are, but because of two very important ways he is so different from Kano himself: 1) he takes things in stride, and 2) he is sociable. Wow is he sociable! A lot of his opinions formed the first time he met Sora and panic threw a severed arm at his face and Sora just went "uh, okay" and then invited him to his room to watch tv or something. That first conversation they had, Kano talked about how he's not really a people person, but he saw Sora as one- it's largely why he calls him Hero, because a Hero isn't somebody who saves the day, a Hero is somebody who pulls people together and inspires them and he had hopes Sora would be that person. It didn't matter to him that Sora checked up on him as he made rounds to literally everybody, it was important that Sora checked up on everybody, and so he was tasked to play mailman because Kano assumed if Sora's already talking to lots of people then passing on a single message to a handful of them wouldn't be as imposing as if he had asked anybody else. Who else would pass along messages knowing they're from Kano??? it could only be Sora. But also know that I was very nervous sending that very first message to him because I didn't know how it would get altered on the way over and I needed those capitals to stay in tact, I WAS REALLY HOPING YOU WOULD GET THE MESSAGE I was hoping there was some sort of thought process from "oh this is an innocuous letter" to "oh but certain words are capitalized when they're not at the beginning of the sentence and would normally be so they must be important" and also "goodbye spaces because character limits is a thing" but also if Sora wouldn't ICly figure it out he would be the sort of person who would share and crowdsource and Kano was really banking on that. So when Sora replied back later that he got the message Kano was very pleased (the fact that Sora figured out the message was from him also made him very pleased) and also encouraged because he really does want to help however he can, while constantly feeling that his hands are tied... Actually in trial too he was a little hopeful at first, that Sora let him get away with not saying where he spent curfew, because there was some sort of understanding that Kano would say something if he felt it were important but he keeps things to himself when they are not, but unfortunately that sort of trust is not universal and he didn't expect it to be either. I don't know! In the end, Kano wouldn't really say that he and Sora are friends, but he knows that there is some degree of trust that Sora had in him and he knows that Sora is just inclined to trust people but also he wanted to live up to that tiny tiny sliver of trust and be useful, so he wrote messages in the graveyard where otherwise he would not have bothered to say or do anything.
