Xie Lian!!!!!

Clem never unlocked much lore, and I think this will probably be pretty short, but she does like him very much!!! I am getting increasingly incoherent in these... God......

So like all my tl;crs have talked about how important Groups were to Clem and how much she cared for the concept of them and the people IN various groups. These two didn't really interact much at all, but once she knew he was in the Roles Group she was like "well this is my friend now and I have to protect them with everything I've got."

But the thing is that

He actually made a really good impression on her JUUUUUUUUUUST before their first role meeting together. It was a very brief thing, but at the spa party, where she felt super weird about being there and didn't know what to do - he was the first one to talk to her. By handing her food. So he was 2/2 on comfort. And then they also had something in common! (HOMELESSNESS???) and it really helped ease her into the party and. It was a small thing, but it was a lot to her. So when she later went and saw him at the role meeting, that earlier moment really made her react like

Her self esteem and general happiness vs stress levels were fluctuating fucking wildly during the protect jeanne, saved jeanne, kill her own group bc rabbits are in good standing, protect dorothy, FAILED TO PROTECT DOROTHY, oh dorothy was mad we even tried? to protect her? oh people are mad at xie lian?????

Like... She and Sora had a conversation where she was saying "This is the path to the best outcome, so we just have to do it and apologize later." and he was like "Oh, do you think people will accept that apology?" and she was like "... No?" She knew some people would be upset at being killed, or at the fact that by the end of the game, they were basically orchestrating these entire mock-trials, and she thought it would be totally valid for people to be mad.

Clem has this thing where she... Questions herself a lot and is pretty insecure about big decisions. She doesn't have anyone to rely on to guide her or tell her she's doing a good job. She also... Is DEEPLY defensive of the decisions she makes and will get super combative if anyone tries to criticize them. Because it's one thing to say to yourself "I wish I had done better," when you did the best you could, but... When you do the best you can and someone says, "You should have done better," that hurts a lot more.

So despite that weird balance, she WAS prepared for people to be mad. She just didn't understand the THINGS they were mad ABOUT. Or the PARTICULAR parts of what happened that they were upset by. And she's not... Compassionate enough to try to see things from their perspective. She's locked into her Group, and now her Group is the perspective that matters t oher. So like when Shiro said "oh you should have done things differently" she was like FUCK YOU, whereas if he'd just said "what you did sucked" she would have been a whole lot less immediately furious.

In this particular situation, she was willing and expecting to take negativity. But then when it happened she was just baffled by the shape of it. Anyone that got mad, not at them as a whole, but at Xie Lian in particular, immediately got an internal [ clementine will remember this ] and went on her shit list. It was unfair, but she plays favorites really REALLY hard.

Anyway that's about it. She has no idea what's up with Xie Lian and his boyfriend or his world or anything except some basics, but she deeply hopes good things happen to him from here on out and she does care for him a lot and thinks he's a sweeetheart? She will probably text him sometimes to check in.
