[ True to K's word, the path isn't horrible. It's not, like, great, because this is still a jungle and all, but it could be worse! K seems to be in awe of everything and has tried to go off the trail a few times, but he's at least sheepish because Emet-Selch probably hates that.
But the trip is taking some time, and K is getting antsy. Also, the main path is getting kind of boring, so can't they take a detour or two to see what's out there? Please?
What should Hansa and Emet-Selch do?
A. Do as K asks and go off the main path for a bit. B. Tell him to behave and just be patient. C. Tell him a story/do something to entertain him as you walk. ]
[fun fact i legitimately asked jan that question because i thought i was going to need to know if he still had his bow with him after going off the path was an option and hansa was here.
anyway, emet-selch looks just as surprised as the metatext is when hansa does not say he can handle going off the path. one brow arches, but then he nods.]
I suppose I could spin one or two tales, yes. If the boy is keen on adventure, mayhap hearing about something from another place entirely will distract him.
[ You know what, Crystal is right and I'm going to give these poor letter children actual names. K is now Kaiza. Yaaaay.
In any case, he seems mollified by their decision for storytelling time, as he swings around a branch he picked off the ground like it's a sword. (Disclaimer: Kaiza is not a trained fighter.) ]
You guys are old, so I guess you know a lot of stuff, huh?
[He just looks back at Emet-Selch with a frown, though by the way it changes quickly to a smirk, one can tell that honestly, he's amused being called old. One would be, to a kid like that.]
Well, sure, age has its experiences. But you can know a lot even when you're young. Maybe you'll even give me and Emet-Selch a run for our money one day, Kaiza.
Anyways...yeah. What kinds of stories are you into, kid?
Well, I do not have much of the former, but if you would hear of other places...
[he hums, considering... hansa knows some of it already, so he minds sharing less.]
'Tis a shining city, with buildings of heights far greater than any of these trees. Certainly more than twice as high, glittering and grand. Within it, anything the mind is capable of dreaming up may be created; we have only to think of it and focus, and there it will be, exactly as its creator pictured it. From simple objects to something as extraordinary as a bird created of flame-- anything is a possibility.
...Hey, Emet-Selch, you're going to make my world sound super boring with that sort of talk!
[He laughs good-naturedly, though.]
Ah, but seriously, his world sounds amazing. My world doesn't have that kind of capability, but its a huge place. We have huge cities, small villages, wide oceans, fields as far as the eye can see...it all depends on where you go. I currently live in a big, bustling city, decorated with beautiful signs that light up in all shapes and color with the help of a special gas. It has large buildings filled with delights and spectacles of all kinds, and people come into them to try their luck at all sorts of games. If they win those games, they could walk away with amazing riches, or they could lose everything. It's very exciting!
[Hansa: time to explain Las Vegas as something exciting to a child who has no idea what it is]
[ Hilda and Alyssa have now obtained one (1) village home! And fictional fake money, because they need money to live. It's where Hishi lives... Huh. Where are this child's actual parents? Anyway.
While Hansa and Emet-Selch are off frolicking in a jungle somewhere, unbeknownst to Hilda and Alyssa, Hishi has school to attend. Maybe now would be a good time for Hilda and Alyssa to get a sense of what her life is like (and where the heck her parents are), so...
A. Sit in on one of her classes, with the teacher's permission, to see her school environment. B. Ask around the village about her. C. Wait after school for Hishi and spend some time with her to ask her themselves. ]
[ it's fine it's mg magic... but alyssa seems to take the question very seriously, pondering on their choices. ]
Hm... well, she seems like a pretty independent girl. We might make her feel uncomfortable if we're just hovering over her all the time... we could try to ask around? The other villagers must know about her, and they might tell us stuff she wouldn't tell us herself.
Hm... yeah, it'd be good to get some perspective. Let's try to make sure at least one of us is home to greet her from school though! I'd hate to leave her to come back to an empty nest.
[ hilda's family is extremely doting, this is the norm for her. anyway this is out of our control but let's try it anyway. ]
[ You know what, you tried so I will give you half points.
Alyssa will come across her and Hilda's neighbours, who are nice old ladies. They will give her lots and lots of cookies, so please make sure to eat them (and share) before your scenario magic advances in time and they go bad.
Anyway, yeah, they know about Hishi! That poor girl... Her parents are researchers who are constantly travelling, especially since investigating ruins is their specialty. Oh, but they never managed to get near the ruins up north—oh, wait, getting off track. Anyhow, they used to bring Hishi along with them, so she's never stayed in one place for long... which is why they left her here! They were hoping she could have some semblance of stability. (And then they left to go focus on their work again.)
Meanwhile, Hilda is... less productive! She'll end up in the shopping area of the village, where a man passing by falls madly in love with her. He gives her a plush (where did it come from? where did this guy come from, for that matter?) but also, nobody here knows who Hishi is.
On the bright side, while the nice old ladies try to drag Alyssa off to play card games with them (and give her more cookies), that means Hilda will be back in time for Hishi to arrive home. She looks a little surprised to see someone waiting for her, to be honest. ]
... Good evening. [ She looks at the plush. ] Where did that come from?
[ she probably should've made dinner or something domestic like that, but instead hilda sucks and only has this adorable dinosaur plushie to show for her efforts.
to be fair, it's really adorable? ]
Oh, this?
[ she kind of wags it in the air and gives it a little squeeze. ]
I found it in the shopping district. [ .....nobody needs to know about her suitor! ] What do you think?
[ meanwhile, alyssa is distracted by the old ladies' tale... while she politely declines the card games and insists she needs to get back and pick up hishi, she does try to inquire about the ruins to the north. are they dangerous? ... and speaking of which, how long has it been since her parents left her here to go on their latest expedition?
[ Alyssa will learn that the ruins are very dangerous, yes! It hasn't been that long since they left Hishi behind, but they'll be gone... indefinitely.
The cookies are fine and, in fact, are delicious. You still gotta live, Andie.
Meanwhile, Hishi looks at the plush with a face of mild awe, which is probably, like, the most emotion she's shown yet. Though, she then looks at Hilda with her previous deadpan expression. ]

Hey, Emet-Selch. Think we should entertain the kid? I'm sure you have some nice stories in that big brain of yours

Oh, tales of adventure from the great Emet-Selch himself? Now this I have to hear.

Stuff where they beat up the bad guys and save the world!
