The Realm... It responds based on people's experiences and memories. Most likely, what happened was that it knew such a contraption was used to execute criminals, based off people's knowledge, and thus it chose what it thought was sensible.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was random. Or maybe, since she and Virid seemed to know each other, it just knew to associate her with him, without considering the context.
