If I lose my love for the people, what will remain? I've thought for a while about if there's anything I'd be alright with losing... and ultimately, the answer is no. Yet I know I cannot, so I am trying to prepare for what may happen.

People will always disagree on what "the right thing" is. Even the gods themselves may not see eye to eye... Perhaps there is no absolute justice in this world, or any.
So, all I can do is follow my heart. If that means I might do what others disapprove of, then so be it. We each are free to act on our own will.

Yet as you said, there are some things that kindness alone cannot accomplish, and the interests of innocent people cannot be protected if they are guided only by kindness and peacekeeping.
It would be nice, if kindness was enough to save everyone.
