Rabbit and Fox get along with each other better than they do with some of the others, so if it's a lie, it's not impossible for them be co-conspirators... but I have never had a reason to believe in any malice from them.
It may not be unrelated, exactly... but more directly, I suspect it was because of how Virid's actions destabilized the Realm. Perhaps a combination of the two?
It's possible that that... "feature" [ he sounds so uncertain? is that the right word? ] didn't yet exist, if the Realm didn't expect it. Though, it's also possible that no one is willing to admit to it...
Ah.... Well, I have a few more people left to ask before I'm certain - but that's something to consider. I may never be able to find Virid's team then.
