first of all, i will constantly reiterate that i am so very glad that you came to join us this game and i got to play with you again snow, it's been a treat
that said. i genuinely did not think we'd get cr and especially the way that we did. IM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW, EXACTLY, IT WORKED. originally hc was pretty hard for sora to read and he just kind of wrote it off as "this guy is just doing things his own way and that's chill, i will also do things my own way." he accepted that he's not going to be 100% on the same page as everybody else and just kind of figured as long as they were friendly enough it was fine. and then hua cheng started actively speaking up in trials and during the week and saying things sora aligned with and he was like "wait never mind i actually do agree with him, okay, this could work."
everything really solidified when swan told him hc was on their team because it suddenly became something personal since teammates are always people you should talk to and get along with. somewhere along the way, hc became one of the most trusted people in the realm when it came to planning and getting the job done, and it's part of the reason sora tried to convince the other swans that he was the one who killed alyssa. to him, there was less of a chance of people getting upset with him than there would be with hc and even though this logic was stupid as hell he sure did try. hc was someone whose morality was a little more gray than sora's, but he never felt like they clashed when they started talking about how to handle things going forward and what their next steps were. he highly valued his opinion and after a while he started hoping for approval before settling on the fact that he was just happy to have someone to communicate with. likewise, hc's desire to help him protect swan definitely won a lot of points and in the end sora just sort of shrugged about any sort of reputation hc had and went "this is my friend and that's all that matters."
and with that in mind, there really wasn't much that sora wouldn't do to help him during their time in the realm whether it was gathering information or helping make plans or just making sure he didn't hurt himself more than he already had. he's not quite arrogant enough to say that they're equals, but he didn't exactly have the same sort of reserved quality around hua cheng as he does with other adults he's not as close to. he was someone sora could talk to without judgment and that meant a lot more than he could ever really say tbh.
