Clementine likes sincere people, first and foremost. And Alphinaud struck her as someone very sincere. Like with Ochako - I feel like each of these tl;crs I wind up somehow referencing the most recent one I wrote, but anyway - she was very ??? that she got to skip the first step of most interactions she has with people back home. Which is the suspicions and skepticism phase, before sincerity. Instead they just talked, like, right off the bat?
She genuinely was so fascinated by like... Elves... And Centaurs... Probably more than she was by the concept of magic. Magic just made her mad a lot. But non-humans?? Cool??? And she also thought it was very endearing that Alphinaud was such a Fancy Boy lmfdgfhgfhf.
They never had a particularly deep friendship, but she did enjoy talking to him and teasing him a little, and she appreciated that when he had an idea or when he wanted something, he'd just come to her and say so. Sincerity = important. I think if she hadn't had a role, she would have shared a lot more of whatever information she had with him... But because she had a role, she was way more secretive about shit, especially as she wedged herself into the role group and her team.
Clem was really comfy with their surface level convos that sometimes veered into "can you do this for me/here's what i think is a good idea/do you have some plot info i'm after" etc. She never felt like "oh no he wants more than I want to tell him," despite being secretive. I wonder what the best way to explain it is... Maybe like... The kind of friend that you run into and enjoy chatting with for like 30 straight minutes that you didn't have to spare because you were in the middle of something, and then both of you are like "wow we should hang out for real," and then you never do, but neither of you is upset about it??? That's very specific, but that's. How Alphi was for her. Which also meant that while they didn't get into things too deeply, she was more willing to have surface-level conversations about the stuff she would SHUT DOWN with other people. Like talking about maybe going to his world. She wasn't going to and wasn't REALLY considering it... But with other people she would be like NOPE, AND LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT IT, but with alphinaud she was like "haha maybe!" and entertained the idea for the sake of conversation...
Also she had a little crush on his gf but didn't really realize? that? so she was just happy that she found someone since she could tell that Izumo was super shy and lonely. It was sweet... She was very happy for them.
Even if she was also like. why are people dating. in a place we're trying to escape. what is the fucking point. ANYWAY IT'S FINE.
