Basically... Clementine really liked Izumo! More... Than she even realized. LMFDGDFG. From the get-go, Clementine arrived feeling very combative and prickly about the whole situation, and instead of trying to like. give peptalks or make her stop and see the bright side, Izumo was just right there with her like. YEAH. FUCK THIS PLACE. WHAT THE HELL. Which was very refreshing! They were able to just be very frank with each other... Was how it felt at first?
Clem still felt like most things she could be honest with Izumo about. Like, Izumo felt like a generally safe place to complain! And trustworthy! But then there were... A couple things. Like Kano, for one? Clem didn't even learn/figure out he was cursed until way later, and even then her reaction was like. She considered sending him a message but it would have just said "sorry for not realizing you were cursed to be a dick. it was because you were already a dick," so she didn't bother. BUT SHE JUST DIDN'T have a good impression of him. And so having Izumo, the person she was like "ah yes, we see eye to eye" be way more affected by a thing than her was jarring? And she didn't want to fight about it because - again, she liked Izumo.
And that kind of continued to be their dynamic, where Clementine... Came into things like "ah yes, we will see eye to eye" and then they constantly didn't? And instead of being normal and just, like, talking about it with Izumo, which probably would have went over just fine?? Clem instead was like "BETTER DROP THIS, THEN" because she didn't want Izumo to turn on her.
She's not used to tsunderes of the brand Izumo is. She's used to people taking time to warm up to her or being cautious and distrusting at first... But she's just... Never really encountered a tsundere who behaves like Izumo does. So she didn't know how to handle it.
In other words, Clementine had tiny crush on Izumo without realizing it, and because of that crush, any time she sensed conflict between them, she would like. Try to skim past it because she found Izumo so much more unpredictable than the people she's used to dealing with. Any conflicts probably would have been fine? But she never wanted to upset Izumo or risk getting some wild reaction that would feel out of nowhere to her, so she would skirt away from anything that she thought might cause that. At... The detriment of their actual bonding. She was always worried that if she said the wrong thing or dissed the wrong person Izumo would just turn on her. And she was afraid of that, so she super over-corrected and closed off a lot of avenues of conversation and bonding...
But despite that, they were friends, and Clem believed that. She got that Izumo was shy, at least, and so she was willing to be just a little bit more pushy to at least - hopefully - make it clear to Izumo that she cared.
