To be honest he enjoyed Taako's gremlin self as much as Lup's, because he could see that Taako was actually quite smart and cunning? Especially during the trials, which sure, he would shitpost like a pro, but there was often an element of truth in what he said, that Chiron really appreciated. And Taako being mean at Chiron never bothered him. GETTING UNDER CHIRON'S SKIN IS SO DIFFICULT TO BEGIN WITH, so he was primed to deal with Taako's everything and just gently tease him back.
Not gonna lie, that first week I was like /eye emojis at them because at least from Chiron's perspective, they really did hit it off pretty well, and he would have been perfectly happy having Taako at his roommate forever.
And then... Chiron daughtered Lup. And at least in terms of any potential romantic slant, that put the cherry on that. IT WAS MORE ME THAN CHIRON TO BE FAIR but I was like "aw, damn, another one bites the dust I see." He still enjoyed Taako's company but it was very much in the spirit of "well by extension, you are now son-shaped and that is that", and he became focused on trying to be any type of emotional support for Taako if he could manage it.
THEN THE FUCKIN BALL HAPPENED and it was a combination of Chiron being deeply honest, the OT4, and a loss of certain memories which caused him to gracelessly blurt shit out that Taako hadn't even asked about. In his mind, he was just reassuring Taako that he was not the tank to gun for, but realizing he'd pissed the other off made him quietly scream in his head. He felt SO BAD and like he had damaged his good standing with Taako.
Which is why when the dust settled, he went to go apologize for his bad conduct. Chiron's still a polite softie deep down, and it did mean a lot to him that Taako didn't harbor any hard feelings towards him. He feels a bit bad that he was never able to vibe with Taako like he was able to with Lup, but regardless, he likes Taako a lot.
