First of all - heck yeah teej we got some CR!! I'm proud of us!! Our timezones are usually so incredibly mean to us that I'm just glad if we can tag but we got some actual cr going and I'm really happy. Even if it was a lot of CR colliding in the messiest ways possible, I'm glad it did.
I really do enjoy the dynamic between Emet-Selch and Alex, if I'm honest. Because it's so different and they don't know each other all that well. It still feels important because they're both trying/willing/allowing themselves to get to know each other because it works out easier that way? Alex knows that he's important to the people she cares about, so she knows she wants to try and make an effort. And it seems to be slowly paying off, so!
Honestly, if you'd said to me at the start of the game "becks, alex is going to be in a quasiromanticplatonic relationship with emet-selch, an immortal centaur and a cyborg" I would've laughed, but ... I really love these four. Weh. They hadn't even really talked before everything happened so much during Week 3? They'd spoken a couple of times, but not enough for her to have a huge opinion of him -- he seemed interesting? A little intimidating to her, so she didn't really feel comfortable reaching out all that much because she found a number of things about him a little overwhelming. And then... well. Week 3 sure happened.
There was that sort of realisation that Emet-Selch was someone that was important to Hansa. And then she also found out about how important he was to Chiron as well, and she did... well. What she likes to do -- try and protect the people she cares about. And that weekend that meant trying to get people off of Shiro's murder case to focus on the other case instead. Partially because she wanted to know what happened to Sumire, but also because the idea of Emet-Selch being gone and how much it would have hurt Hansa and Chiron meant she wanted to avoid the outcome, and when things didn't work out that whole weekend was sort of a mess -- and she felt bad in her own way because she was really just thinking about Hansa and Chiron at that point, and what this would do to them. (Although knowing Emet's crimes now I, becks, am very amused).
One thing I do want to say is just how easy it would've been for everything to fall apart right here. We all kinda boggled at this in dms, but there were so many points where this might not have happened and one of this is that Alex might've withdrawn or not been happy with the whole concept, even if she had gone along with it. But really it was Emet-Selch that brought up the concept? Him and Chiron suggesting that Alex be a part of everything was genuinely a surprise to her. She didn't know him, but he was willing to offer her a place with them in spite of that and for a women who has just come from realising how painfully alone and lost she really is that was probably a lot more important to her than anyone might've thought. She's very aware of how alone she was back in Ergastulum, so these three boys basically gave her a space that was hers, no strings attached or caveats involved, and told her it was whatever she wanted or needed it to be. And maybe that was what she needed to hear from someone.
Even when they were discussing it, she asked for communciation, really meaning "just tell me if there's something that would change things here, please don't leave me in the dark" and he just... offered up the whole "surprise I'm dead" thing without really quibbling. Which was more than she expected. Even if it was in a very Emet-Selch "this is practical" manner, it did mean something to her.
I kinda feel like they're both a bit like cats that are slowly just... getting used to each other and moving a little closer bit by bit. Which is something we've attributed to Emet-Selch in chats, but I feel it kinda works for Alex as well in this case. She's a bit insecure around people when she doesn't know where she stands with them, and they're just feeling out where they fit when it's much clearer how they fit with Chiron and Hansa respectively. But she doesn't mind it? She has secrets and things she's not ready to share yet, even with Chiron and Hansa, so she doesn't expect Emet-Selch to sit her down and spill all his secrets, hurts and troubles all at once, or ever, really. She's happy just... going along at whatever pace they set and seeing how things work out. Get to know each other better at a speed they're both comfortable with and go from there.
And wow there sure is Stuff for her to find out about him, huh? Luckily her moral compass is... well. It's pointed to good but given everything that's happened to her in Ergastulum, it's a little knocked askew. She can disagree with things but also hold her own comfort over that, and she sometimes does β so for the sake of this polycule, and with time, she'll probably open and accept thing as he tells her (if? He tells her?) with some time to digest and work through them.
She's already sort of figured that whatever happened Emet-Selch would have been part of this β if she'd confessed to Hansa and the OT4 hadn't worked out, or if she hadn't said anything at all and had just kept things as they were, so funnily enough the idea of Emet-Selch being there was genuinely less of a surprise to her than Chiron. She doesn't feel uncomfortable with the idea, either. And in a way she doesn't expect to have the same levels of closeness with him that he has with Chiron and Hansa, not for a long time at the very least, but she would like if someday soon they can be comfortable and happy with each other's presence. They have time now, after all.
She can see he's intelligent, and has interesting views and stories to tell, and she'd like to hear them someday. And with 2/4ths of this polycule being fight happy jocks, even if one of them is disguising himself as a collected medicine man, she does appreciate someone in her corner to grab them by the collars and tell them to calm down when she can't manage it herself. Also for Chiron wrangling purposes, even if they are all on the same page when it comes to not letting their centaur throw himself into something damaging and self-sacificial.
While she knows where she fits with the other two for the most part, I like that she doesn't with Emet-Selch and there's a lot of potential there, and that she has to put some work in to get him to considering reaching out to her where he wouldn't normally. I enjoyed the two of them just sitting on the beach after the trial on Saturday and just talking; and that he was willing to say he was the one who killed Soo-Won while she was there. She knows there are probably a lot of things he hasn't told her**, even since the polycule formed, but like I said, that's fine as well. That he tells her some things at all makes her feel positive about things going forwards. And, y'know, he was keeping hugeass secrets all across the board and I support him the shifty sunnvabitch.
ONE DAY I hope he will let her hold onto the crook of his arm* and honestly, that's all she expects from him. They offered her this polycule with the reassurance her relationships with all of them didn't need to be anything more than she and they were comfortable with -- and that reassurance is a big part of what makes her so content with it.
*I actually typed this earlier this week and now you've told me he kissed her hand on Saturday night I'm just like [HAPPYCLAPPING.GIF]. This is about as much as she knows to expect and she's fine with that -- and pleased they got that far, honestly.
