Ochako makes me laugh because comparatively, she and Chiron did not have a lot of build-up in their relationship. He did not know her very well by the time week 1’s CYOA hit, but because of those circumstances she became his partner and a charge to look after, and that really set the stage for how he viewed her. Having to jump straight into battle is no easy task, especially when your powers are being suppressed, but Ochako honestly handled herself so well and took directions from Chiron without question, so it bolstered his trust in her.

Which is part of the reason he gave her permission to try and save Won and Xie Lian, even though deep down, Chiron just wanted to execute them quickly for their own good. And Chiron is not typically the type of person to give that sort of ground – he’s going to do whatever he thinks is necessary to see a duty through… but despite still preparing himself to fight to the death if necessary, he wanted Ochako to succeed in saving the other two for her sake.

She’s friendly and kind and spunky, but still very young in his eyes, still figuring out the type of person and hero she wants to be, and that type of crushing failure can be more of a detriment than a saving grace, sometimes.

He still worries about how she’s doing as a result of that and everything that has happened in the game, but he also has faith she will overcome those hardships. After all, she was one of the others Rabbits that volunteered to die, and that takes tremendous courage and fortitude. Much as he is unhappy that she was targeted, he can’t deny that he’s proud of her for holding true to the type of person she wants to be. Also, the fact that she went out of the way to make him a bouquet of flowers as he was losing himself/his memories? Really touched him. Chiron is not used to gestures like that being offered to him, so when it happens, he is always thankful that he is held that dearly by someone else.
