In the beginning, Chiron didn't really have much of a read on HC, and their first interaction came after Chiron had murdered his lover in a CYOA, so. Great way to set the tone, there.

Though frankly, the way HC handled that first conversation was vaguely surprising to him. He knew/assumed HC to be some sort of immortal, or at least a long-lived deity, and Chiron knows what happens when you touch whatever a deity considers theirs: brimstone, death, pestilence. Had HC tried to kill him, Chiron would have fought back, but he would not have been shocked to incur the wrath of a god, no matter the circumstances.

So the fact he didn't get punched is not only a nod at Xie Lian's ability to keep HC in check, but also a nod at HC for being willing to let that incident go. That's when Chiron decided that at baseline, HC would be a competent contender in this game of theirs, and that he could trust him to keep his head about him in tough situations. Chiron is used to the strength of the gods, but also their folly (and their hilarious inclination to act like tantrumming children when they don't get what they want.) So it was a relief to know there was an actual adult among them.

Admittedly Chiron's opinion did not change much outside of that assumption since they did not talk a lot, but just the fact that Xie Lian loves him is enough proof to Chiron that HC okay in his books.
