In Chiron’s eyes, Xie Lian represents the best that godhood has to offer, which is a touch ironic given that Xie Lian expressed he had once been human, but no matter – he is kind, courteous, devout, and truly believes in the inherent goodness of others, as well as the importance of duty and what it means to serve others, even if you yourself are nearly destroyed in the process. That’s why Chiron is very grateful the Knight title was given to Xie Lian; because it is such a cruel, ugly role in its own way. You must weigh the lives of every person each week, you have to get lucky enough to hit your target, and then you must pray that everything goes according to plan, elsewise you have failed and have to carry that failure in your soul.
And then, like the situation with Dorothy showed, sometimes you accidentally trample on the wills of those you save, even if your intentions are good. It’s just one of those roles that is easy to criticize from afar, and takes a very strong will and heart to bear through all of that responsibility. Chiron thought all of this the moment he heard the role existed, and in his own way, grieved that Xie Lian was going to be tasked with that responsibility.

The role bearing aside, talking to Xie Lian was just always easy for Chiron as well, because the two of them share so many similarities, including a fondness for humanity as a whole. Chiron is deeply pragmatic and, in some instances, can appear cold (him ready to kill Kano during that execution comes to mind), so it helps a lot when others are able to see just how truly caring and considerate he is. And like, even if Emet is mean about it, Chiron will forever be grateful to XL for saving him – not just because Emet also bore a role, but Chiron would have been deeply wounded by the loss of someone he cared for. For that alone, Chiron will keep Xie Lian in high regard.
