[ Hua Cheng and Ange roll successfully out of the way in a badass move that fits both characters, no I don't take criticisms, perhaps a little scuffed but none the worse for wear. Mob, unfortunately, went to the Prometheus school of running away from things, and so he gets a faceful of worm right in the face. The worm flattens him to the ground in a move that Cannot have been comfortable or good for his ribs, and also potentially badly scrape his arms with its teeth, because I have to assume even Mob would raise his arms to defend himself or else he's gonna end up with cool face scars I guess. Luckily for him, Izumo is now the most badass person in this room.
The singular eye is a wide target, and she arcs the knife perfectly so it hits right in the middle, blinding it as it screeches, tilting its head up and away and trashing with its tail and entire body. Weird blue worm blood probably falls on Mob from that. Le gross.
The trashing is destroying the floor, but it's not immediately targeting them anymore! Unfortunately, it is also causing a miniature cave-in. So.
They should probably hurry and try to dodge the trashing tail to the entrance if they want to live, and also, grab Mob from his own miniature crater, probably. ]
[That was so badass??? Ange pops up to her feet surprisingly quickly. Perhaps cave-ins and dangerous worms do that to a person. But she needs a moment to be awed by Izumo's perfect throw.
Anyway back to the cave-in problem. There's really no time to hesitate.
Instead, Ange immediately takes a running start to try to dodge around the worm's death throws and the rocks falling and... everything. She's uninjured so she's also going to try to help Mob up to his feet as she goes, presuming he's like, conscious enough for that, which is all quite the maneuver so I rolled for it and now I'm throwing my hands up in despair.]
[ They'll be down a knife but it's fine, considering how it was used. Hua Cheng's not going to try and fetch it, and while he could help Mob...
Ange? Actually seems to have it covered? He's pretty impressed with that, to be honest, and with Izumo's bullseye shot. Izumo and Ange really pulling through on these rolls to deal with the worm.
But he still waits at the exit out of the cave, until everyone has made it. Only then will he head back to the junction of paths. We can only hope that Mob was able to hold onto the tablet and it wasn't horribly damaged, huh. ]
[Yes, ow! He probably breaks a rib when he’s flattened to the ground. He does raise his hands to protect his face automatically, leaving him with bloody gashes on his arms, but they don’t look bad enough to be immediately threatening.
But otherwise, thanks to Izumo’s badass moves and Ange’s help, he manages to get to his feet, gooey and dazed but mostly fine. I’m sure he dropped the tablet but he picks it back up.]
Th- thank you.
[That’s to both girls. They really did save him there, huh?]
[ the time to celebrate her victory of landing the sweetest shot on the worm is going to have to be cut short because of the thrashing. it's a little unfortunate that the knife is going to be gone at this point but it's fine. two boss battles down and who knows what else is in store for them.
though kudos to ange for the dex skills and the dodges, but also time to scuttle down back to the intersection and pick the right path this time instead of letting rng take care of things. sobs in this cyoa. ]
[ the gang manages to free themselves of the worm room seconds before it caves in on itself, but it's a near thing! it turns out trashing in a cavern and breaking everything is bad. who knew. they should probably hurry before the rest of the cave they're in ends up the same.
they're a little worse for wear but they've still got some way to go, so the gang goes back where they came from back to the fork. this time, the arrow will point to the middle path! the left exists, abandoned. it is there. the whisper izumo heard earlier are a little more insistent, but they are following this tablet that has seen better days now. It's got a cracked screen that fizzes out more insistently the closer they go, but it's a direct path out of the cavern and back into the woods from this path...
out of the cave, they'll find themselves in another clearing. you gotta love open spaces. in the middle of it, planted firmly in the ground, is a broadsword with a golden hilt and a blue jewel in the center. If they look up, they won't be able to find the light they considered following. The sky is visible again through the trees, though barely. there doesn't seem to be anything else around immediately around them.
The tablet is now on the fritz. Stupid technology, can't even take a little earthquake worm. ]
Ange rubs the back of her head a little, because that sure is a sword!! She looks up instinctively, but this is the woods, not a cavern, so there are no more worms.
Then she looks at the party tentatively.]
... I suppose we need to, um... approach it. [despite everything. It's been a time though so she's not doing that immediately.
Also! Are there any other paths out of the clearing for them to take? She's looking for those next, Just In Case.]
[ A sword, and yet another clearing. Hua Cheng ignores the way his skin itches and burns still a little from the acid goo, from the last clearing, and - puffs out a sigh. He also glances up at the trees above (treeiling) - and down at the ground, sweeping a glance across it to make sure he doesn't step on anything - before he starts towards the sword.
If someone wants to come with him to grab it, instead, that's fine. He's just going to go where the weird thing is, and that's. Central to the clearing, so maybe he'll see something as he scopes it out first.
The wolf follows the teens, presumably still carrying Izumo's fox, because I didn't forget either of them but we were dealing with a robutt and then a worm at the time. ]
[ thank you hc for remembering the fox because that's a thing that should be remembered. she'll also follow hc towards the sword on the look out for anything else that should be remarked or noted. ...aside from the whispering. is the whispering still unintelligible?
and honestly she will actually go for the sword, as in go to pick it up, if no one else is going to. though before she picks it up, are there any other kind of details that are noteworthy about it? inscriptions or any kind of decorations? ]
[ there's no clear path out of the clearing, but it's not blocked off, either! Just a wide expanse surrounded by more woods to explore. Woods that are being surprisingly quiet on the whispering front currently, despite piping up earlier. I promise you all there are no worms in the trees. Or anything else except some vines, really.
There doesn't seem to be anything else distinct about the clearing, just this One Sword. It doesn't seem to be that special. The blade is perfectly clean and sharp, despite being stuck in a forest, and tints blue in the light of the moon(s). The gold hilt wraps around the start of blade in an ornate fashion. Upon closer inspection, there's the beginning of etched lines on the blade, though most of it is obscured by it sticking in the dirt.
Maybe do the bandaging before you touch the blade. ]
[ ... since nothing is like, going to kill them right away. Hua Cheng takes a step away from the sword, for now, at least enough to stab the tip of his own into the ground to create a post, undoing his belt holding his numerous robes closed. The belt is draped on it. ]
Good check, Ange. We can splint Izumo's arm, at least, before we move on. Bandage anything that needs it. [ He'll let Mob answer Ange, since she asked, as he shrugs out of the outermost red robe, eyeballing it. A quick nick in the fabric on the edge of the saber, and he starts to make strips. At least even in his fancy fantasy robes he has 500 layers for bandages. ]
[Showing his arms. Please bandage. I assume they will. They’re just open cuts, bleeding a lot but probably not life threatening. The worse injury is probably the ribs, but nothing to do about that.]
I’m sorry about earlier, Kamiki-san. My powers didn’t work.
she'll stop making her way towards the sword, though it does seem very appealing, and allowed to be first aided. especially since bandaging might be a good idea so i, naru, can stop thinking about how her forearm is just there like that. ]
If we can splint it, then I guess that would be fine.
[ she'll frown because, uh, it is bent at a weird angle and "resetting" it to some degree is probably going to hurt a lot BUT what can you do. she'll endure it. either way, she'll turn to mob and do her best. ]
And don't worry about Kageyama; I don't think any of us have our powers really working.
[ you know, for those with special abilities and what not. ]
[ At least they didn't get crushed in a wormquake cave in... god I live in fear of the next mod tag.
But here we go. Hua Cheng was a soldier in a war, once, so he leaves Mob to Ange, and takes a few, good sized strips before taking his sheath and - ]
As far as I know, most of us don't have their powers. [ Snapping it over his knee, breaking the wood of it before cutting the leather on the saber itself so that he has an appropriately sized piece for splinting. They could use some sticks, but he doesn't plan on putting his sword away any time soon, and this is more support with a flatter surface. Once he's got that, it's time for Izumo. ]
... it could be worse. [ But since she'll endure it - congratulations, he can tell you aren't the type that would appreciate being told it's ok to cry out if it hurts. He'll warn her with a "ready," but then set it, getting her splinted up after. ]
that is something that she would like to comment on, but her own mind is going to be preoccupied by the fact that her forearm is about to be made straight again after being crunched on and that will take all of her attention off of anything else. (she'll nod once at hc before he does it, as well, to let him know she's ready. ...or as ready as she can be.)
because pain. because no painkillers. and because she literally can only scream or cry so much before it gets to her pride. (she's a soft girl but a tenacious one.) ...not that she does, rather, she makes a pained noise (obviously) but not outright scream or cry. she'll speak...eventually. ]
[Poor Izumo... Ange seems thoroughly impressed by her tenacity, but she doesn't say anything. Mob takes it well too, and so their ragtag group is bandaged up and ready for more suffering.
She doesn't say anything to Mob's quietly mysterious statement, instead glancing back at the sword.
She's not touching it, though, that's Izumo's job once she's done suffering!!]
[ Mob is... an enigma, most days, to him. So he just focuses on getting Izumo taken care of. He doesn't react to her noise, and doesn't bring any attention to how she is or isn't handling it, because that's a disservice and also a distraction. She knows how she's handling it.
Once he ties off the last of the secure bandaging, getting her affixed to her new best friend the splint, he'll leave her to it. He has to bandage himself, also, but it'll be quick work.
[ the second izumo puts her hand on the sword she'll feel a kind of power, a pull--and then there will be a bright flash of light for everyone here and then they won't remember much at all.
