I think it's more like... every week our team has been collecting a good amount, so whenever we manage to pass a certain threshold, we get a reward for our efforts. The other teams can still do it too, even if they're behind in the ranking, but it just means we probably get them before they do.
I... I'm not afraid of killing someone, if there's really no other way.
[ her lip trembles a bit as she speaks, belying her feelings on the matter. that second week proved how horrifying that really is, but... she'd still done it. there was no other choice. ]
But I don't understand. Why would you have to do that at all? There's no rule saying that anyone has to die here, so why...?
The... splintering thing, that people talk about. It's true. It's basically that... if someone splinters completely, their personal nova gets destroyed, and they become an empty husk. You can't save them after that.
But if they... d-die before that, there's still a chance to save them. It's still baad, but... we can't find any other way to save them from that fate.
We don't know the exact cause, but we think it's tied to the first death that happened.
But... I guess one way to describe it is that the Realm is currently sick from its nova being taken away. So when you're already sick and weak, it means that other diseases will have an easier time infecting you because your body can't easily defend itself. Normally, the Realm would be able to stop whatever is causing the splintering on its own, but since it's currently weak from other factors, it can't. So the only way to make it stop completely is by fixing the first problem, so that the Realm can defend itself from other threats.
...If... if you have to ask us to remove someone. Would you only ask if it's one of us that's splintering? On your team, I mean. Would we be taking care of our own?
As far as I know, a situation like that hasn't come up yet, at least. I'm pretty sure it's all been people on different teams from what I've been able to find out.

I think some others might too, but I'm not sure which... just from what I've heard from people talking.

But about home... it's a little more complicated.

Complicated how?

I guess there's weird time... stuff... going on where I'm from? Things like time travel and time loops.

Time loops... wow. That must've been confusing when you remembered it, huh?

[ . . . ]
Um. Without killing people, I mean.

If... we can't find any other way around it. A few people told me to just pick them if I ever had to, so um, you wouldn't have to worry about it.
