But then there's a grunt from his end, pain slamming down to the marrow of his bones, and Chiron nearly drops his bow from the shock of it until he grits his teeth and forces his body straight. The monsters are approaching -- and dangerous as it is, he is still going to twist and glance, shooting off an arrow in their direction. Even if it's not a direct hit, he'll settle for just injuring one with any luck.]
Very well.
[He just doesn't have time to argue.]
But we will both run if we cannot win. Get on my back when that moment comes.
[If he'll be able to run is... well. He only hopes that if his body isn't presented with any other choice, it'll do its job]
[ Something shifts, and—both will now be able to perceive that the two monsters are very near. Still hurts to look at them, though, so they might not want to do that. Chiron's arrow strikes true, hitting Monster #2 in... one of their many limbs. So how much damage that did is debatable, but hey, at least Chiron can rest assured his aim isn't terrible.
However, the monsters suddenly... pause? They stay like that for a few moments, but Ochako and Chiron might not want to let down their guard.
... Namely because after those few moments, things happen:
Monster #1 extends a limb towards Ochako. Maybe it was trying to grab her hand potentially holding any weapons or maybe not, it's hard to tell when said limb is Very Big compared to her overall size. What happens is that it instead wraps around her body, in an attempt to lift her into the air.
Meanwhile, Monster #2 makes a move to take Chiron's bow. ]
[ but they can still try! she'll try to dodge when she realizes something is coming for her, but of course that's hard to do when you're unable to properly follow your opponent's movements. she's lifted into the air with a loud protest.
hopefully not too high, though? because she's going to stab that limb as hard as she can with one of her knives. ]
So he's going to try and yank it right back if the monster gets a hold of it; and sadly for him, it's possible. Half of his attention is split the moment the first abomination gets ahold of Ochako, and furious, he will try to leap over to it, literally ready to stomp it down with his front hooves.]
[ Ochako successfully stabs the monster, though that doesn't seem to stop it, as it maintains its grip on her. In fact, the stab causes spikes to emerge from it, stabbing into what parts of her it has contact with, albeit non-fatally. So, a stab or two in the waist, maybe.
However, again, something shifts, and now, Ochako and Chiron can look at Monster #1 without pain. Monster #2 still kind of hurts to look at, though.
Monster #1 brings Ochako closer and closer to its body... in particular, towards one of the gaps in its body. Is that—oh dear. It looks like it's bringing Ochako towards one of its mouths. Omnom. Stab more, Ochako! Don't let yourself get vored.
Chiron will succeed in protecting his bow, but in response, before Chiron can reach Ochako, the end of Monster #2's limb opens wide into a fanged mouth like a horrific, deranged snake. Chiron is big, but so is this mouth-limb; thus, it tries to swallow him whole. ]
[ it has MOUTHS? PLURAL? god why didn't we go for the emotional anguish angle
of course she'll stab it more, once she realizes what it's doing!! if there's enough wiggle room, she's going to reach for a grenade, pull the pin, and toss it as hard as she can inside of its mouth. eat that!! ]
[The worst part is he's from ancient greece so guaranteed this is not the first time something has tried to eat him.
Regardless, this is a problem, and with the second monster right in front of him, he can't even get a good look at what's happening between Ochako and the first. So instead he tries to backstep as much as he can, grabbing at the spear still attached to his waist and pulling it free in the hopes he can just stab the creature directly in the mouth]
Glad that Ochako continues to wiggle even after getting gently stabbed. Keep doing your best! The grenade flies and flies... and into the mouth! It explodes, causing a shake throughout the monster's body, fire erupting from inside. Looks like it's been badly burned, so maybe it'll die?
... Except then. Ochako is close enough to see that it's... regenerating? Wow, this monster is a fucking cheater. On the bright side, having a grenade detonate is enough to distract it for a bit, as it lets go of Ochako.
It doesn't seem to appreciate having lost its grip on her, however! One of its gaps begins to glow, before it then fires a giant beam of energy at her. Its aim isn't quite accurate, as Ochako falls; the beam will scorch the upside of her arm. A burn for a burn! But at least it didn't hit her limb directly, or else it would've disintegrated.
With that said, she's still... falling... She's at least low enough that impact with the ground probably won't be fatal, though high enough that she may break or twist something...
Oh, and her Quirk returns. You can decide whether it's back in time to help her or after she falls, Ray.
As Chiron fights Monster #2, he'll notice that now, looking at it no longer causes any pain. His spear goes right through its mouth! How mean, it just wanted a snack, maybe.
While that limb is stuck, and possibly Chiron's spear in it while Chiron may have to struggle to pull it back out, another limb emerges, going around Chiron in an attempt to pierce through his back from behind.
Barely perceptible, the pressure Ochako and Chiron feel begins to subside.]
[ as much as i would love to let her fall, when you've had power over gravity since you were four years old, your first instinct is to, you know, defy it. she's immediately pressing her fingertips together, concentrating as hard as she can in spite of the burn, willing it to work.. and when it does, and she breathes a sigh of relief as she hovers just above the ground.
i don't know what happened to the knife, though, maybe it's still in the monster or maybe it'll fall and stab her through the leg after she catches herself. you're the mod, jan, you tell me.
but they aren't out of the woods yet, so she quickly rolls in the air and releases her quirk with a wince - without the shoes from her hero outfit to cushion the landing, that does still hurt her ankles - and runs to rejoin chiron. ]
Archer-san! They can regenerate!
[ does that make this unwinnable?! either way, she's not going to run until chiron tells her to, so she'll throw another grenade at Monster #1, maybe deliberately fall short of its mouth. more destruction means she'll have more ammo! ]
Chiron wisely decides that the spear has done its job in distracting the creature and lets it go, returning back to his weapon of choice instead -- and that split second decision to retreat a few paces and reorient himself is the only reason the second limb merely scratches at his flank instead of piercing him to the stomach.
What little blood this causes goes ignored; it's a minor wound. He's had much worse.]
I know; but we can perceive them now.
[Or he sincerely hopes Ochako can. But she's at least free of the monster, thank the gods for that, and there's another arrow ready at his bow. For now, he doesn't call for a retreat]
Is your power back in your possession? If so, use it.
[He, on the other hand, is going to shoot two arrows in rapid succession at what he hopes count as one of Monster #2 eyes.]
[ You know what, sure. The knife, as it falls, stabs through Ochako's leg. Get fucked. Just not in the way Anna's characters are fucking, probably.
The grenade explodes, sending debris—debris Ochako can now use!—flying everywhere, as well burns that lace Monster #1's body. It goes still, though again, it regenerates. However, if Ochako pays attention, it looks like it's healing more slowly now...?
The arrows strike Monster #2 in the eye. Ow. It doesn't seem willing to give up just because of that, though, as the limb that failed to impale Chiron tries to stab him again, but this time through his wrist holding his bow.
Furthermore, though the eye he pierced with his arrows is healing, it has... more eyes! One fires a giant beam at him that he might want to dodge, as a direct hit from that will certainly disintegrate him. (Ochako as well, by virtue of being near Chiron at the moment.)
Also, Chiron's Clairvoyance has returned to him. Hurray! ]
[ once the explosion's done, ochako is darting in to touch as much of the debris as she can - albeit slower than usual and with a nice limp thanks to her brand new stab wound, hehehe. the debris will float, up and up and hopefully above the monsters, but she doesn't release it yet.
nope! she definitely caught that little change, so she's reaching for another grenade and tossing it while the monster is still recovering. sorry for stealing your schtick, bakugou, but it's only for a few more comments! she'll float any debris she can reach after that explosion, too. ]
We'll have to run once I'm ready to release it, okay?
[ chiron's probably noticed her floating rock collection already, but it doesn't hurt to warn him anyway! ]
[Incredibly rude, Monster. He needs that arm, and is going to try and yank it out of the line of fire once he realizes it's the target.
Though much like with his back, Chiron doesn't escape completely unscathed. The damage is a little more severe this time -- splitting the skin and some muscle, and bringing forth a wince of aggravation -- but all he needs to know is that he can still use his wrist if necessary.
-- That fuckin laser beam, though]
Ochako! Move!
[He's sorry but he's going to have to interrupt her "Once I'm ready to release it!" plans because he can tell that attack will effectively murder them in an instant. If she's still near him, he will uh -- well frankly he's gonna try and lift her up with his free arm by the waist so they can
[ Another grenade, another explosion, and more burns for Monster #1 that it's regenerating from, albeit more slowly. With a similar gradualness, the monster lumbers towards her and Chiron using its many, many limbs, almost like a deformed spider.
Meanwhile, with renewed strength, Monster #2 begins to swing a few of its limbs wildly. At first, it seems there's no real attempt to go for them—though Ochako and Chiron will want to be careful, lest one slam into them—but after a while, the limbs aim more precisely towards them. Specifically, they try to pierce both Ochako and Chiron's hearts. ]
[ i forgot about the laser so chiron gets to yoink ochako out of the way! congrats on your new daughter.
and i rolled an 11 so i guess ochako lives this time. booooo. tentacle-san can pierce her shoulder instead. but hey! she has three grenades left, so she's just gonna grab one and chuck it Monster #2, because revenge is a dish best served exploding in your face!
she'll still try to collect the debris, if possible, but marie said chiron rolled a 5 so i assume? she's going to check on the damage with him first? are you okay, horse dad? ]
For obvious reasons he can't get stabbed through the heart, that would be a bad time for everyone, but between juggling his bow with his injured wrist, keeping a grip on Ochako so she doesn't get stabbed in the heart (and god, how his blood pressure rises when he's not able to keep her save from all harm), and then doing his best to weave through the spider-like limbs--
All it takes is a misstep.
So there's a sharp, agonizing pain coming from his side, suddenly, and if Chiron has time to be grateful for anything, it's that his human torso took the hit instead of the half of him running like a gazelle. So he doesn't stop. Doesn't make a sound, either. Just stumbles briefly and then picks up the pace, teeth grit.
His tunic is quickly staining with red]
Ochako--
[Voice oddly calm, if tight]
Tell me quickly. Can your power work on organic life? And if not, is there enough debris for you to bury at least one of the creatures?
[ To be frank, the monsters are too large for Ochako to hope to bury... but funnily enough, and I swear I had this planned since the last tag round—something happens. A whistling sound rings through the air, coming from Monster #1. Is it breathing? Screaming? Talking? It's hard to say. But slowly, it shrinks. Granted, even once it reaches its smallest form, it's still big, at least a few times the size of Chiron; still, it no longer towers as monstrously over the two.
After getting a grenade explosion to the face, Monster #2 pauses (maybe it's politely waiting for them to finish their strategy talk? no). Then, it surges forward, practically propelling itself through the air towards them. Once it stops, it whirls in place, its limbs once again flying around, though this time more horizontally than anything.
At least one limb sweeps at the ground as Monster #2's body spins, as well as multiple other limbs at various heights. Chiron and Ochako will want to find a way to dodge, because getting slammed by one will 1) hurt a fucking lot, and 2) probably send them flying. ]
[ I mean obviously he knows he's hurt, but since he's still focused on the monsters, ochako will bite back her concern for now and focus, too ]
Y-yeah, it does. These monsters are way too big for me to float, especially with all the rocks, but I could lift us, if I have to.
[ actually. why didn't she think of that sooner? she goes ahead and activates her quirk on herself, removing her own gravity so the load is a little easier for Chiron to bear. ]
I might be able to take out the smaller one if we can get to a safe distance- watch out!
[ ochako can't really dodge while chiron's carrying her oh nooo ]
[-- And just like that her weight is gone, allowing him a little more speed to his name. What a formidable power. He'd get lost asking her the details on how this "magic" works if not for the fact that there's gonna be a lot more dodging in their future.
Which is hilariously the thing Chiron is least worried about because if there is one thing he is good at in a pinch, it's running, jumping, dodging, and pretending he's more antelope than a centaur. Maybe he can't reach the speed of Achilles, but his pride as the teacher of heroes is still on the line here.]
I will leave the small one to you then. Lift us only if it looks like I can no longer outrun them.
[He knows he's on a timer now. His wound will not heal itself, and he's losing blood at a rapid clip when he can't slow down. Their best hope is to take down the monsters before he slows]
[ Monster #1 just kind of... stays where it is. Not doing anything. Hm. Maybe now's a good time to finish it off!
Monster #2, on the other hand, is still moving. It chases after Ochako and Chiron, limbs extending in an attempt to grab them, stab them, whatever it can do with its multiple limbs. Chiron's words may have been a curse, because even putting aside the limbs that are capable of reaching them (might want to keep dodging! unless getting grabbed/stabbed some more is on the to-do list today), it does look like he won't be able to outrun it. ]
[ she nods at chiron, and once they're out of range of the floating rock collection, presses her fingertips together one more time. ]
Release!
[ and since it's waiting patiently to be murdered, presumably monster #1 is getting buried as the rocks crash to the ground, under gravity's influence once more. ochako's own weight returns with the rest, but she'll reactivate it on herself a second later, biting back on the nausea using her quirk on herself again brings. kill monsters now, toss cookies later!! ]
Two left...
[ grenades, that is, which will give them two more shots at the remaining monster. it's a little different from a bow and arrow, but it's all she's got, and they can't afford to stick around much longer, so she pulls the pin out of one grenade and throws it as hard as she can. ]
Well no, not quite -- there is still plenty of life in him, but Chiron is counting down the half-seconds between every jump, every dodge, every sudden stop and swerve that has him dancing out of death's grasp for a little while longer. He runs like his legs are on fire, breath coming out more ragged and pained.
At most he has a half-minute left if he keeps up this kind of speed, but there is no breath he can spare to warn Ochako either. He's done what he can to guide her. The rest of the plan is on her shoulders.]
[ Monster #1 in its shrunk form does, in fact, get buried underneath all the debris Ochako prepared. For a moment, it struggles—but then it stills. Presumably, it's dead. Hurray for Ochako! Just like a true hero.
Suddenly, as Monster #2 chases them... it also begins to shrink? It takes that grenade to the face, and this time, it doesn't seem like it's regenerating. It collapses, and though with eyes and mouths and limbs all over its body, it's hard to say if that makes a difference, it at least doesn't get back up. It's still alive, though: with what strength it has, its limb makes another reach for Ochako and Chiron.
[ once the rocks drop, all of her attention goes to the second monster. excitement runs like electricity through her veins when she realizes that it's stopped regenerating, and that it, too, is starting to shrink. maybe they'll get out of here okay, after all...?
well. she has one more chance to make it happen. they're almost there.
