[ ... they bite at their lip, wrapping their arms around themselves ]
Virid implied someone asked him to do it. But ... the only person who could have, and gotten such a strong influence on the Realm-- it had to have been his Leader.
I don't. We only know our own team, not the others'. And obviously they're not going to admit to it if they did it in the first place! But everything's messy now. The Realm's not... it sees things in simple terms and acts based on memories.
[ they shake their head ]
I'm sorry, I'm not great at explaining that stuff.
[ frowning... but trying to put it together in her head. ]
It acts based on memories... Does that mean it has a memory of someone carrying out a trial like that? Or someone here does?
[ certainly not her. She's seen men skewered by Mechon - she's been skewered by Mechon - but never seen someone put in a device made purely to kill like that. ]
Maybe not exactly like that, but it knew from enough memories that sometimes, when people are killed, a trial is held. So it made something similar enough happen?
[ and they grimace at her question ]
... If someone kills again, it might. And I can't... promise you they won't. Not if what Virid said about getting his memory was true, or if his Leader really did tell him to.
[ it's a rhetorical question; she's just dismayed to hear it. There are so many awful memories that it could pull from that nearly anything could happen. Anxiously, she clasps her hands to her chest, where Meyneth used to reside. ]
... I guess I'd better hurry before things get worse. [ a beat. ] Can you promise me something, Swan?
They don't even know they're on that team. [ it's an agreement, their mouth twisted ] The kid was clearly—deranged, but I can't believe someone would manipulate anyone into killing like that.
He wasn't deranged, [ she replies quickly, a bit defensive. ] He was just desperate. With self-esteem like that, it was probably even easier for him to be manipulated, you know?
[ she liked her little roommate - even after what he did, she just wants to understand. Fiora has a lot of room in her heart. ]
... He didn't. It sounds like he didn't have many people that wanted to listen growing up. I tried talking to him, too, but I didn't hear anything he didn't say the next day.
[ a sigh. she still feels like she failed, somehow. she should have done something to save pikachu, and to save virid, too - she should have seen this coming, after seeing him every day. but she was completely blindsided.
That's not why she's here, though. She shakes her head. ]
... I can't change the past, but I can try and change the future. Swan, could you tell me who else is on our team?
[ they don't seem sure how to answer that, lips pursed, and welcome the subject change despite their lackluster answer: ]
Since we can't outright confirm or deny anyone who is or was on our team, no. I can hint at it? But I can only give one hint per person per week... for some stupid reason. [ they go ugh. ] I already promised someone I'd give it to them for this week, but I'm working to connect you guys as fast as I can. If all goes well, I should've managed to get three people into contact already.

Ugh, I know. It was awful.

I know what he did, but he didn't deserve that! Are you just going to blame the Realm again?

[ she'd had a bad feeling about this. all the power and knowledge was pretty unilaterally with the six of them, after all. ]
You sound like you don't know who that was, though.

These rules all sound so arbitrary... What happens if you break them?
