Only if they break completely. There might be some side effects, but that would be hard to know for sure unless we were able to check.

I don't think there would be a way to stop it altogether when the Realm is already weak to everything else that's happening. It gets compared to a sickness a lot--you can't completely prevent yourself from catching a cold, but you can try to take up measures from getting even more sick.
