After I worked at the helpline, I transferred to another department within the same company. It's hard to explain without getting into confidential matters—and to be honest, I still don't recall all of the details—but think of it as acting as direct support, to an assigned individual.
They had a year to achieve certain... personal development objectives. I was to observe them and assist with what they needed, as 24/7 on-call, without interfering too much.
... The idea of being able to see for myself how the person grows and overcomes their obstacles is nice. Working at the helpline, I didn't always get to know how things turned out after they called, and as it was all anonymous, it's not as if I could ever keep in touch with them again.
